More Fun Sims to Explore
Madpea Devil's Labyrinth-#1 spot on Showcase Saturday so I checked it out. This is actually more of an adventure game, to make it through the labyrinth. Not even close to an ordinary maze. This is great fun, but even more fun with friends! Check it out here: LabyrinthHere.
Simplexity a is a totally immersive multi-media-based virtual environment by Toth Jantzen. There is a serious epilepsy warning, so be careful here. Lots of cool flashing vids and music, a wild tunnel ride, amazing places with lights and sound to dance to, just really a first of it's kind I think. Turn on media for this one.
Check it out here: SimplexityHere.
ZombiePopcorn or Bust is some of the most fun you will have shopping in a while, as the whole sim and stores are set up in true horror/run down fashion complete with amusement park, church and creepy graveyard, girly shows, casino, etc. filled with fun things and shopping. Some name brands included Callie Cline, Snatch, Ducknipple, LouLou and Co. and many more.
Check it out with direct link here: ZombieHere.
My RL/SL sis, Piper Palianta, gave me Landmarks for two different sims filled with nature and beauty and lots of individual and couples poses. First I was a fairy in Glendalough,Topaz Island. Check it out here: GlendaloughHere.
Then I checked out Emerald Green, a very pretty sim including a lot of stray lights, waterfalls, various levels of natural beauty best with a friend or partner to try out all the the sweet poses and dances. Don't miss the underwater garden too.

Turing Gallery, Extropia Core
Kolor and Kara (me)
Friday, August 20 I visited the opening of the interactive installation Extropia Turing Gallery, Extropia.
L1Aura Loire and Maya Paris' contributions were in the annex gallery (underwater) and Kolor Fall' in the main gallery. Kolor looked like a huge stack of cubes and Maya had on the Mer-mechanic suit. They suggested I get a free Mer-mechanic suit and a free exhibition catalog which I did.
After I picked the free items, Kolor gave me a tour of his work. He had a couple of new paintings up and then the showcase was floating cubes and encryption stuff that I didn't fully understand but knew that it was cool and I liked it. Kolor was patient and explained he's always had an enfinity for Turing's encryption. Kolor advised me chat was being recorded and sure enough whatever I locally typed instantly became part of the exhibit floating in the air temporarily. The cubes moved around and clumped and eventually I told Kolor I loved it, but wondered if he had a notecard, and he passed me one. I will quote it here:
"In general, my art creates in the observers mind an emergent keyed space, that is a spacial fabric in the persons neural network. Tension in this keyed space allows emergent paths to be created and destroyed in the observers mind, within the framework on the key that is placed in the artwork. This keyed space in the observers mind may be persistent, as they leave the install, to hopefully assist them as active observers in the physical world.
----
I normally do a small poem with my install ...
"Keys"
Tension - Emergence of space
Keys - Maps removed of form
Time - Creation torn from destruction
Love - Work without insistence"
Next I donned the Mer-mechanic suit and by this time numerous others had gathered outside also in the free suits and we all jumped into the water next to the giant telscope thing. To engage the teleoctoscope we all turned on media and there was a huge structure below with seat-like spots to sit and view sevearl "pods" of different machinima. One of my favorites was of a group of Mer-mechanics dancing. A different machinima could be viewed in each spot.
Maya in Mer-mechanic outfit.

More on Emerald Viewer
Now the Metaverse Tribune provided some information that is a bit clearer to me... I think. Check it out here: MetaverseOnEmeraldHere. So Emerald is no longer on the approved LL viewer list. I'm still holding out hope this gets fixed, and soon.
Addendum:
I just loggged into SL for the day and was deluged with notes and info. from groups and friends about Emerald and I will just cut and past a few here.. perhaps it is ok for now after all.
First:
"Emerald has been removed from the TPVD today due to recent events by Fractured Crystal who, as a result of those actions is no longer part of the team. Emerald has also undergone a massive restructuring in order to create assurances that the actions of all developers are transparent from this point forward. We will be re applying for the TPVD listing immediately. We expect there will be no problems with that application given our new restructured system of development.
Official announcement from The Emerald Development team attached.
I would also like to remind people that the TPVD is optional for third party viewers to join. It is not a requirement. You will not be banned for using Emerald while it is not on TPVD. In the meantime, we are re applying for it and expect to be back up full force shortly. Thank you.
The Emerald viewer project and its development team have undergone a massive and necessary restructuring in response to recent incidents caused by the project leader.
I will be glad to go into detail regarding those events after this announcement.
This restructuring is designed in such a way as to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
From this point on, there will be no ONE single person running Emerald Development.
We are all going to be on a level playing field. All decisions, changes, and alterations to any code or anything at all, will be done transparently and democratically.
Part of this restructuring process also involved the necessary removal of the developer who is responsible for these past incidents; as a result Fractured Crystal was invited to resign and has done so today.
As of NOW, All affiliation between Modular Systems/Fractured Crystal and the Emerald Viewer have been permanently severed. A new domain has been purchased and we are currently getting our new website online.
The website will be hosted at EmeraldViewer.net and should be online and operational shortly.
Ownership and control of the servers used to host the Emerald Viewer downloads and website have been transferred to Arabella Steadham who will maintain the hosting as a neutral party for the project.
Aside from the downtime of the website, our users should experience no changes that will affect them directly.
Also today, as a result of the incidents in question, Linden Lab removed Emerald from the TPVD. We expected this might happen and have since provided the Lab with information regarding our new changes, structure and goals. We hope to be back on the TPVD soon.
Our two biggest regrets are first and for most that these incidents ever took place, and second, that we failed to take this radical action sooner.
We sincerely hope that these significant internal changes will help us restore some trust and faith from our users and from Linden Lab in regards to the integrity of the Emerald Viewer Development team.
Thank you"
Then:
"If you are told that Emerald Viewer has been removed from the TPVD and so using it will result in your being banned from SL - or some such, please proceed as follows:
1. Ask the person to verify information before spreading panic, because that info is FALSE.
2. Inform the person that Emerald is being re-registered on the TPVD under new leadership.
3. Tell the person that is is damned stupid to spread panic - stupid and irresponsible.
4. Delete the note card.
5. Go about your day/night as usual.
Thank you.

Prism is having a 50 Linden Color Hunt! I got notice of a cool sale today and the notecard said, "Time out for Prism's quarterly color hunt. One color in each outfit has been marked down to 50 lindens each. Also be sure to check the single color outfits as many of those are also on sale.. This special event will end Monday morning so hurry and have fun!" I ran over and picked up this Shilo dress outfit for only 50L and found a bunch of other great 50L items too! Yay- Talamasca Bengals, Cheerleaders with the Second Football League!
(Me in middle-top pic, and this end in bottom pic. Also, Aealla Illyar and Kathy Nikolaidis)
Today I had an official practice with the cheer squad for the SLF Talamasca Bengals football team. There has been a HUGE amount of work and organization by many people in the beginning of this new SL sport. A week ago today began player drafts and prior to that many cheerleader applicants went through basic training, exhibition and drafts which continue.
Romeo Torvalar is the founder and CEO of the SFL. The SFL, launched in May of this year, utilizes revolutionary animations and other components to bring Second Life residents a truly immersive and life-like American football experience. With killer-app custom design and animation, including the ability for Players to be injured in real time, unique merchandising, and an independent team ownership structure, the SFL is creating an exciting new way for Football to be virtual. It will have over 32 teams with owners, players, cheerleaders and coaches. The SFL has an exclusive contract with TreetTV, one of SL’s most watched networks. I guess league games are slated to begin some time in September.
Dirk Talamasca is our team owner along with Journey McLaglen, and Aealla Illyar is the Cheer Coach. I feel lucky to be with this team as I hear Dirk Talamasca is with SL Mentors, JIRA Participant, Linden Lab Good Citizen and is said to be an extremely talented builder and active in making SL a better place for residents. I was very excited when Journey, designer and owner of Prism Haute Couture and BOSL writer, called me up in the last cheerleader draft and along with Aealla offered me a spot on their squad.
I think the little avs look so cute in the matching outfits and sync'd cheer/dance routines. I'm looking forward to getting our team squad outfits. Even the practice is fun, but I sure hope I don't crash during a game performance. I guess everyone is going to need to come see Kara cheer/dance then stay to cheer on our team. I haven't told them yet I have an awesome tiger skin and also av.. wonder what they'd think of that! Yay for cute mascots too! O, and a totally awesome stadium that is like real inside and out!
I have heard that it might not be too late to apply for player and cheerleader spots, so if interested, check it out.

New Concerning Emerald Issues.. what again???
EmeraldConcernsHereLordGreg. LOOK AT THAT! OMG! Ok, can someone I know and trust please give me some direct info. on this latest Emerald issue, in layman's terms that I can understand... slow and clear... like for a child? Yes, I read this and some stuff for myself and that is my concern. It sounds like some major hidden spyware to me?? But what do I really know and I don't want to be an alarmist unnecessarily. Also, I am not clear on how this will or might impact me directly. But I really need to know exactly what this means for me, an avid Emerald user and fan. I LOVE Emerald, and think from my experience and from what I have heard from others that is it best for explorers who take pics and vids... like ME! But, O My Goodness!!! So many trust issues. I guess I would just be thrilled if LL would just make their own version of Emerald with all the same features.. I would love that.. thanks.
8-15-2010.. addendum.. ok rumor has it Qarl Linden, recently laid off from LL and seemingly admired by most (I don't know him but have heard about his skills), may have just joined up with Emerald. I have no clue what is going on. More here: http://blogs.secondlife.com/message/351633

Amadeus, Machinima by SpyVspy Aeon-premier Aug 12
Photo I took during filming
Tomorrow, August 12 at 2pm SLT SpyVproductions in association with Yourmachinima.com presents a machinima premier at Versailles, Chateau de Verssailles-Parterre, Chateau de Versailles 120, 128, 28. SpyVspy has been working on his production this summer and asked if I'd like a role, which of course I did. He is one of SL's leading machinimatographers. But alas, my U.S. day work hours did not work well for the rest of the cast and crew, so I was only able to spend a short time with the group. This became a first for me. When SpyVspy called me up he said he was in need of a guy, and when I asked him if he wanted me to find a free guy for him, he said, nah, just come and be a guy=ROFL! So I did. And to top it off I was not the only female playing a male role that day. But in the end I was not able to continue with their schedule so gave up my male role. (See above pic and I am the man in the blue). Spy advised me his end production is a lot better than his trailer, but here is the trailer and I look forward to seeing the final product when I get home from work later in the day tomorrow when he will have posted the final on Youtube following the premier party. I have very high expectations, knowing his prior works. Land here for the premier AmadeusHere.
SpyVspyYoutubeHere. Yes, yes, I know the right 1/4 is cut off, sorry, I don't know why.
On a separate machinima note, today I dropped by Spotlight TV Live as the host Scorpinosis interviewed Chantal Harvey on the 48 hour film project, which will be September 17-19, 2010 this year. Teams get together to make a machinima with some starter information and specific expectations and the winning team goes on to Filmapalooza in real life. Filmmakers from all over the variety of virtual worlds will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world. Their website for more information is: 48hrFilmSiteHere.

The Gracie Kendal Project-My Life as an Avatar
Today I went to a Gracie Kendal talk and am sooo glad I didn't skip this. I heard her once before in parts on some SL TV program I happened on. I recently came across her web site and find her to be extremely interesting and hilariously "truthful to a fault" person and avatar. I say person and avatar because of "The Gracie Kendal Project" where she is her RL and SL selves exploring their identities together. It makes for great entertainment and also inspiration in a very creative way. If you have not heard of Gracie, RUN to her "Food For Thought" art show Tuesday August 10 5:30 SLT at The Library Art Gallery, and hope to goodness you meet her.
"The Gracie Kendal Project-My Life as an Avatar" is the brainchild of RL 37 year old, unmarried, childless, Kris's (Kristine Schomaker). Gracie and Kris "talk" to each other via comic strip type bubbles and explore their sameness and difference. Kris went to the extent of making another SL avatar in the likeness of RL Kriss and had the SL Kris and Gracie play together in SL. For Kris' masters thesis she decided to "be" Gracie. Kris, who is much shorter at 5'4" yet much heavier than Gracie, struggles with self esteem, being overweight and her body image a great deal. They progressed together through RL and SL and discovered some interesting things as Kris attempted a RL Gracie style makeover. Kris and Gracie found that in the end Kris is more comfortable in RL as Kris (during her makeover she dyed her hair, worked out trying to get into better shape, got a nose ring, and had her nails and makeup done, but in the end stopped wearing the nose ring and was not thrilled with the heavy makeup) Gracie however was most happy with the SL Gracie and not the Kris SL avatar who Kris feels is a bit heavy in SL and doesn't often get on her any more in SL. Some other finds along the journey to find her inner Gracie included a turning point of thinking of Gracie as a separate entity and fully realizing who has the control, like where would Gracie be without Kris and how they are reflections of each other. The self talk comics wound down as the end of semester neared with Gracie thinking she wanted to come to the real world, but realized she can't yet they will still always be a part of each other. Don't worry, Gracie is alive and well in yesterday's recent post about "10 Things I Hate About You" (see web site and top pic). I'm waiting for the "10 Things I Love About You".
Kris just finished her Masters degree in studio art at CSU, Northridge. She will soon start teaching African Art history and is a RL/SL painter. She also self-published an 80 page book in real life about "The Gracie Kendal Project" which includes pictures of the project, her art and images from second life. She won a RL award for a presentation about this project. Her site is here: GracieHere. This is really about Kris' journey to find herself and exploring options that bloomed within SL. She spoke about a book she was recently given by a friend that she found some similarities with her experiences in, "Eat, Pray, Love" that will be a movie out soon and is a travelogue of soul-searching and self-discovery by Elizabeth Gilbert. Kris is an exceptional speaker and was as much a pleasure to listen to as her interesting RL/SL observations and reflections have been to read about.
Her own words sum this up best:
"Who am I?
I am an artist. I am an avatar. I am a woman. I am 36. I am ageless. I am thin. I am overweight. I am beautiful. I am not. I am a lover. I am not a fighter. I am a dreamer. I am an artist. I am a romantic. I am scared. I am strong. I am vulnerable. I am wanted. I am unwanted. I am intelligent. I am witty. I am ditzy. I am happy. I am unhappy. I am lost. I am found. I am alive. I am alone. I am lonely. I am an artist. I am free. I am enslaved. I am independent. I am dependent. I am loved. I am unloved. I am rich. I am poor. I am an artist. I am talented. I am a creative. I am an expressionist. I am successful. I am unknown. I am an artist. I am Gracie Kendal. I am Kris Schomaker.
I am real.
Kris Schomaker: Who are you?
Gracie Kendal: I am your inner conscious, your alter ego, your self portrait, your avatar, your art… I am you.
KS: “I remember when, I remember when I lost my mind…”
GK: Who sings that song?
KS: Gnarls Barkley, why?
GK: Oh good, let him sing it then.
KS: “Well, I think you’re crazy, Just like me…”
GK: Ummm yea! I could have told you that. So, who are you?
KS: I am me. I am you. So, why are we here? Oh yea, I remember. I am using you to confront my imperfections and insecurities.
GK: Yea, well here’s the thing. I don’t like how you’re ‘using’ me, but I like the use of new media, installation, photography, video and performance for this project.
KS: Well, by projecting myself onto you, I am exploring my personal anxiety and loss of identity. As you know, I have found it difficult to be comfortable in my own skin. After living with years of criticism, my sense of self has become dislodged and torn apart.
GK: You really think I can help?
KS: Yea absolutely. You already have. You are Gracie Kendal. You are a beautiful woman and a thriving, successful artist. You are confident and self assured, you wear the hippest clothes, hang out with the coolest people, have a really fun and exciting single life and you seem to be happy. Of course, this all takes place within Second Life, but such is life, in one reality or another.
GK: But, Kris??
KS: What?
GK: I am you!!"
Ok, Sorry, I Know this was a long post, but it's a interesting project worth my space and time.
Addendum: BOSL (Best of Second Life) picked up a story I did on this. Check out the September BOSL magazine for this review.

It Was A Blur-another temporary sim to visit
Back home trying on the block dress by Vintage McMilliam, Radio Signals and omgwtf barbeque I got at "It Was a Blur"
I finally had a good lag free visit ('tried before and when too many people were there I just couldn't fully appreciate) to "It was a blur" sim. Check it out here: MirrorBlurHere. Their information asks, "Do you remember? It went by so fast. It's fuzzy. Hard to pin down." Well, that is a good description. This sim has a whole lot of white in it. There are items created by the artists to help you blur with the environment and it's clearly encouraged to participat in the art, with poses, animations, sounds and machinima to aid in the full realization of the works. I think I should have worn white. This is a 4 week experience running from July 16 until August 16, 2010, so hurry on over and don't miss the pose and play options for all the white blur. Participating artists include:
Allegory Malaprop
Apatia Hammerer
Bryn Oh
Daelia Dollinger
Jojorunoo Runo
Juliette Westerburg
Lyndyn Tzara
Miel Nirvana
Moo Money
Note Buaku
OMGWTF Barbecue
Radio Signals
Redd Columbia
Riki Yifu
Sanura Sakai
Selavy Oh
Serj Enoch
Sienia Trevellion
Stoic Ixchel
Surrealia Anatine
Vintage McMillain
And others.

My Alternate Identity Crisis
Dear Diary,
Here I am again as confused as ever in SL. I fear I am having an alt identity crisis, or maybe I am just being SL moody and obsessing again. Over time I have had friends talk to me on alts pretending to be someone completely different than themselves and not identify themselves to me as the av I know as my friend. This has caused me some frustration, a great deal of mistrust and disappointment, as well as embarrassment. I realize SL is "just a game" to some when convenient for them, but there are real feelings involved. Of course I have alts, as previously blogged, for movies, pictures, sometimes just to get some peace and quiet or do/wear/play something different and some people use them for store and club fillers, models, helping to build, etc. So there are many good reasons to have an alt, but I never mislead someone on mine. I mean.. with my guy I am quick to tell anyone that it's me and not a real guy and why I am on him, etc. I know people have other reasons for pretending to be someone completely different on an alt, but I can't think of one that seems ok and seems likely its for spying or hiding something. I have to say I have felt very "played" when not told upfront about alts. I wish all my friends would just tell me who their alts are and leave it at that. My alts are like a money pit actually, because no matter how many nice freebies I can find, I still want to buy them cool stuff too.
Note to self: Some possible signs of an alt:
-Have a very recent profile date, yet look very well put together with great skin, hair, clothes, AO, profile picks, etc. and knowledgable about all things SL.
-No payment info. on file yet still have many of the things listed above.
-Similar look/mannerisms/clothes, groups, etc. as someone else known.
Dear Diary, I really am pro alt, I just don't want to get played by them by people I think are friends. They confuse me too much. So what do you think Dear Diary, should I just go make a new alt to fool all my friends, mess with their minds, do dirty deeds? I have to wonder what the limit by LL is on the number of alts one person can have? Can I make an army of alts and take over the grid? Nah.. that wouldn't be nice and I doubt my computer could handle that. But... maybe one more just to dress up cool and play with?
Anyway, singing off, Kara.

The Guild's New Video/Lowe Runo Machinima
"Game On!"
A short while back The Guild released a new music video "Game On" that I will link here. TheGuildGameOnHere. I can very much relate to many of The Guild's comedic situations and I love The Guild's regular shows, as apparently do many other "virtual world participants" according to their vast following as it falls into it's 4th season. Most SL'ers are very familiar with The Guild, but for anyone newer to this virtual phenomenon The Guild is a group of 6 real life people led by Felecia Day who are friends that play WOW and produce very short regular videos about this. It's a web series about gamers that started in 2007 and has won many awards. If you haven't seen this it is a "must view" for sure. I laugh so hard at every episode and they are short enough at 3-8 minutes to really keep my interest and leave me wanting more actually. A lot of people tend to talk about which character they associate with in The Guild, but my SL play is so varied I really see a little bit of myself in each of the female players.
Last year The Guild released their first music video, "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?" DoYouWantToDateOriginalVidHere. This was kind of a spoof on how sexy, cool, superheroish, or divine everyone makes their avatars but in real life.. it is usually not quite the case, yet even still it's fun to have a little dating, passion or "whatever" in the virtual world. The song has some classic lines. The video is about how Felecia goes on about how her avatar is "hotter than reality by far".. anyway.. it's one of my all time favorites and I was so lucky to be involved in a SL rendition of this produced by the famed machinimatographer, Lowe Runo. I am snatching a copy of it from his Vimeo stream to put here for all safe keeping for myself now that I think about this. I love the song and both videos. Recently someone did a fantastic job morphing the original which uses the real life Guild cast members on top of Lowe's SL avatar version for a very cute combination that sums it all up in Youtube. Check out Lowe's Youtube for his other great work while in there. He has been working on some excellent action flicks. LoweHere. Anyway, time to jump back in SL.. game on time!
Ooops, I forgot to mention, my avatar is in the pink slave rags with long dark hair as one of the back up dancers. This was fun to make and there are some still pictures taken during the quick filming Lowe did over in Flickr if you want to see more about it.

Alirium-A Beautiful Sim in Second Life
Jump into the well at the starting point at the top of the tree by the big bunnies.
Check it out: AliriumHere.
It seems there are quite a few new and reconstructed sims around lately. At the suggestion of my friend Cafi, I re-visited Alirium, one of my favorite sims for pictures. Alirium has a huge tree with a couple of small shops that are artfully done and from the main tp point at the top of the tree you can drop down a couple of levels through the shopping areas, to the ground where there is a gorgeous four seasons area filled with trees, plants, animals and effects.
