Patrick Thorkveld gave me a sneak peek at the new White Tiger Orientation Area for the First Responder Sim. He said, "Treacle Darlandes set it up in conjunction with us and LL...it's the orientation area for training people who come into SL so they have skills necessary for First Responder training." He said new avatars new in training will learn how to drive, walk up stairs, open doors, etc.
I met up with Iso Huet the art and design director for the First Responder projects, Patrick Thorkveld and Treacle Darlandes who is the sim designer and director of the program for orientation for new avatars in SL and is also director of the orientation program and screening for trainees for first responder. Iso explained this area is an expansion of their burn install (which I previously blogged) and it is Treacle's domain. Treacle explained that this sim is for new users to SL and mentors are here to help.
Treacle Darlandes said, "We will help Iso and Patrick by teaching the new users who come for the FR training to use the viewer before they go on to do the FR course. But we will try to prepare them so they can follow their course well." Patrick said Treacle also has a whole program endorsed by SL to train new avatars that had approximately 10 k people come through last year. He added that all the First Responder trainees have to be certified here first. Treacle said, "This is avatar control in a crash course, only I hope they don't crash too much!" She added that they can look at their rig - pc or laptop etc., ..get the best out of what they have hopefully, let them know about the Community Standards, and teach them how to orientate quick. The White Tiger Help and Learning Island for New Residents is below. Iso said, "This is an important project. Hopefully there will be lives saved out of it. Wouldn't that be something?! Learn in SL.. save lives in RL."
This orientation area is designed after the burn exhibit and the FR sim itself on a mini scale including the working tornado, fires, lots of lightening, crashing waters and stormy sounds along with areas to learn to maneuver in such situations. A great project for a great cause and fun to safely experience.
