Domino Effect at The Lighthouse Monday Evening

Visit the Lighthouse venue here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Valinor/128/128/23

Monday night at 6pm SLT singer Domino Effect will be at the lighthouse singing and I've been told this is a show not to be missed.

You can listen to some of Dom's music here: https://soundcloud.com/dom-200/house-of-the-rising-sun

Some press release info on Dom states: "New to SL, singer/songwriter Dom projects a raw, penetrating, natural talent that pulls listeners in with his infectious sound. Along with his self-taught guitar skills, this Minnesota native has been singing his whole life and is driven by an unspeakable force to share his gift. It is clear that Dom pours real life experiences and feeling into every performance."  https://soundcloud.com/dom-200

Weekend Highlights

I've been doing a variety of things lately so I thought I'd just give a quick rundown of what I've been up to this weekend in SL.  Of course I hit a lot of live music, clubs, and hanging out at home and with friends as usual, but some of the other highlights I'll list here.

*Starting with Friday night I was a groomsmaid in the wedding of my good friend Duke Sommers and his beautiful bride Cinneebunz Sommers over at the beautiful wedding sim, Love Story Venue @ Charming Beginnings Wedding Sim http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/IceDragons%20Playpen/32/63/22

Saturday at 11pm SLT Saturday I visited Elvera's Castle of Dreams,  at English Rose Theatre Morabeza 131, 7, 131.  This 1.5 hr show by Elvera Lerner in this gorgeous theater was a Andrew Lloyd Weber tribute show as this year celebrates 50 years of Andrew Lloyd Weber.  Elvera sang and danced with set, costume, and special effect changes.  The sets and songs she sang came from Evita,  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat,  Jesus Christ Superstar,  The Likes of Us,  The Phantom of the Opera,  Tell me on a Sunday,  Cats, Sunset Blvd., Aspects of Love, and Whistle down the Wind.  I have never seen one of her shows before and this SL singer's show brings SL music to a whole new level.  Obviously she's well known as there was a large crowd enjoying the event. I'm not sure when her next show is but do visit her theater and maybe there will be new signs up about it here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Morabeza/128/128/48

*Saturday another highlight was the grand opening of the Windlight Gallery here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Froien/128/128/22 owned by Johannes1977 who is also owner of the new highly popular Windlight magazine featuring all things art in SL.  The event held a large crowd in both the gallery area and the entertainment garden and I took a few pics.  They follow up with another formal music event August 23rd at  3pm SLT with singer Anek Fuchs.  Be sure to check out their lovely gallery with art by: Artemis Greece Resident, Richie Narstrom, Seb Arkright, Bones Delicioso, Ozymandi Resident, Ilyra Chardin, Sandi Benelli, Myra Wildmist, SereneDean Resident, Roffellos Resident, Bluesrocker Resident, ChrysteRox Resident, and Wicca Merlin.  They have a lot of events and things going on including a beach photo contest I previously blogged on so check out their web site here: http://windlightmagazine.com/contact/

*Sunday I visited Psi City owned by  Louise Françoise de Dampierre (felizitas.barbosawhich) which has been around since 2008 but updated to the extent I had a hard time recalling I've been there before.  It's a great explore and I took a quick pic.  Visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Altha/128/128/39  The sim info. states: "The City where Music comes alive, Thingies and Co., Thingies and Co goes Petites, erotic (sm, UREMBO Haute Couture, the Backdoor, Urban, Vintage, Live Musicians, Zoo, Wedding, Beach Volleyball, Park, Metro, Sewer, Art Museum". There is a lot to see and explore here. I'm showing off my great SL driving skills LOL.

*At 12pm SL I tp'd over to SLlive Radio studio for the DJ show of Sonicity Fitzroy whose "Slow Bake" show features music by SL musicians.  I tend to make this show each week  to hang out with old friends Soni and her Belinda Barnes.  Always a fun time with friends. Visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/MistyFalls/128/128/0 or check their web site and listen online here: http://radiosllive.blogspot.com/

*Studio 25 also has a weekly Sunday DJ show starting at 12pm SL and I ran over to hear my artist friend Frenchy DJ followed by DJ Dregoon from 2-4pm SL.  Not only is this a fun place, it's got great art and a fun explore in the multi-level area.   Be sure to catch both these Sunday events each week. Studio 25 is also gearing up for their Black N White exhibit and they are still accepting photos too.  They have themed exhibits and parties each month, Sunday DJ events and various other events in between.

Pursue Impossible with UWA Art and Machinima Challenge Aug 1 through October 31, 2015

Visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/UWA/64/130/248
UWA web site here: http://uwainsl.blogspot.com/

UWA Pursue Impossible Challenge .
The press release states: " PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE: UWA 3D Art & Film Challenges 2015
http://uwainsl.blogspot.com/

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is happy to announce the launch of 'PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE, the 6th UWA Grand Art Challenge and MachinimUWA VIII with a starting prize pool in excess of L$400,000. Sponsored by Tom Papas & SciFi Film Festival, Reign Congrejo & BOSL, LaPiscean Liberty & SL Artist, AviewTV, Pixel Bits, Virtlantis, Phillip Vought, Carolyn Steele & York University (Canada), Taralyn Gravois, UWA Marketing & Communications, as well as The UWA Virtual Worlds Project. We hope you are inspired by the 'PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE' theme to create many wondrous works of art and film as you have been through the years! (Please note the major rule & special prize guidelines as well as the Audience Participation Prizes for watching the machinima. All machinima will be highlighted on the UWA Blog & SL Artist.)
WHAT: 6th UWA Grand Art Challenge & 8th UWA International Short Film Challenge (MachinimUWA VIII). You may enter the art challenge, the film challenge, or both.
WHEN: Entries close at Midnight SLT, 31st October 2015. Winners will be announced in December 2015.
THEME
The theme is "PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE." Artists & filmmakers can interpret the theme as they see fit. What is your impossible? What is the impossible goal you have conquered, or that you have seen your loved ones or your heroes conquer? What are the things you once thought were impossible, but now are able to overcome? How do virtual worlds help you to visualize, create, and push the boundaries of possibility? What are the things which seem impossible now, which you think you will attempt to hunt down? What are the impossibilities of the mind? of the heart? of the soul? Is it the pursuit of the impossible that takes precedence? Or defeating it? You the artist... You the machinimatographer...You decide.
WHY THIS THEME
Those who pursue what may at first seem impossible are the ones who keep the world turning. What if Ghandhi did not believe he could overcome the impossible for his country? What if Dr Fiona Wood did not believe in second skin for burn victims? What if Professor Barry Marshall did not believe in himself and use himself as a human guinea pig for the benefit of mankind?
The theme 'Pursue Impossible' was chosen in honour of the new brand that UWA unveiled in May 2015. UWA's Karen Carreiro explained, “It says so much about our University – who we are, what we do and how, every single day, our researchers, students and academics are working to shape a better future.”
For those involved in the UWA virtual world presence, it was an honour to see Second Life featuring in the UWA launch!
MAJOR RULES FOR ART
Artwork entered should be able to be interpreted by the casual viewer as being representative of the theme. Where the link to the theme is difficult to ascertain, this should be referenced in a notecard accompanying the work.
Each artist may submit only one entry. There is a 150 LI (land impact) limit. (Note that you may not get around the limit by using temporary objects.)
Copy/Mod/Transfer permissions are not a requirement, however COPY perms are appreciated.
Entries should be submitted along with a completed Artist Notecard (which includes your name, city, name of artwork and a description of artwork) to the drop box in the UWA gallery (SLURL). If you have problems with the receiver, give artwork to Jayjay Zifanwe or FreeWee Ling. These rules and blank notecard templates are available by touching the drop box at the UWA Art Challenge platform.
We discourage the use of parts that you cannot copy and transfer to us for installation. All work must be free of copyright issues. If you utilize any 3rd party materials, such as music/sounds/media, textures, or prefabricated parts, you must have permission from the creator(s) and you should acknowledge their work in your artist's notecard.
If you have special requirements for space, media, etc., please contact FreeWee Ling, curator, for assistance.
Sounds, lighting, particle effects, etc., should be scripted to turn off when not in use. You may be asked to provide a revised entry if it is too intrusive or interferes with the display of other works.
Exceptionally large or complex builds will be placed on platforms above the gallery with a teleport (TP) device and poster on the gallery floor and a return TP on the platform. You may provide a TP object and/or poster (no more than 2 LI) or we can place one for you. TP objects should be set to copy/mod and given to FreeWee Ling to add scripts and to place.
Exceptionally laggy scripts may be rejected or only allowed if revised.
As with all our public programs, an entry may not be accepted if it is excessively abusive, violent, offensive, bullying, harmful, insulting, or contains inappropriate material or excessively foul language. Depictions of explicit sexual activity, as well as material deemed offensive based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation are not appropriate for this venue and may be rejected. Final decisions in these matters will be made by a UWA Cultural Precinct committee.
MAJOR RULES FOR MACHINIMA
There is no limit to the number of entries you may choose to send in.
The theme is 'PURSUE IMPOSSIBLE' and you may interpret this theme as you see fit, however the average viewer would need to be able to appreciate how you fit this theme (alternatively, please indicate in the notes how it fits in the film notes on the web).
Your machinima must be made specifically for this challenge, and the following should be indicated in the opening credits 'For The University of Western Australia's MachinimUWA VIII: Pursue Impossible'
You do not have to film on the UWA sims, however this of course will be appreciated, and there is a Special UWA Prize which will be made available to a film which starts at the same point as the UWA Pursue Impossible Video, at Winthrop Clock Tower.
4 mins 30 seconds is the strongly recommended maximum length, but this is not a hard rule.

Project Sansar Summary

Please review blogger Inara Pey's post for an excellent compilation of currently known public facts about the new Sansar Project here: http://modemworld.me/2015/07/25/the-sansar-summary-july-2015/

This is the best summary I've seen so for of pubic information that's been released and well worth a read if you have an interest (as we all should) in the new Linden Lab Sansar Project.  She cites her sources and everything for a good comprehensive picture of what we might come to expect.
