SL15B Finale

I logged in to SL last week and my friend, August West, reminded me it was the official final day of SL15B. He tp'd me and the huge cake stage was literally imploding or maybe exploding is the right way to describe what was going on, following a show.  I was lucky enough to see so many pieces of the cake stage falling from the sky onto the spectators, bouncing around in all its beautiful, lit, colorful glory.  There are many videos of it out on Flickr and Youtube coming down, with pieces dropping and bouncing around the avatars.  Afterward we visited his friend Bridget's crystal tree exhibit then took the pod tour for a last look at the exhibits. I had to grab a few final pictures to save on my blog.  This is an annual Second Life birthday party/community convention, with many exhibits by residents, some huge special exhibits and tons of events, music, etc. The shopping area closed July 2nd and I was able to get my free 500L Blueberry shopping gift card they gave out to all visitors, which was a nice treat especially considering the whole event was totally free.   If you've never been to one of the past SLB events, be sure to keep your eyes open for next year's, as its a annual must see event.

Every year there are one or two builds that just WOW me.. and this is it! Looks like it was made by Walton Wainwright (faust.steameer) The Serpent. It's huge and there is a stage area for events inside the building that is impressive.

SL14B, Second Life Annual Community Celebration Opening Day Sunday June 18th

Visit the welcome area here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SL14B%20Impressive/96/122/80
A greeter at the main landing area gave me a wearable hud map, a had and flag.  The hud map is very handing in gettiner around.  They do have the moving pods again too for a nice tour.  Another good landing area is here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SL14B%20Stupendous/128/128/18

The Second Life Community Celebration runs from June 18th through the 25th.
Visit their official web site for full details, daily event schedule, more landmaarks, etc here: http://www.slcommunitycelebration.info/

Their theme this year as stated in part from their website states "Our theme for SL14B is “Carnivalesque!” If this is a birthday, then we’re going to have a festival worthy of Second Life®! Strike up the band, toss on your glad rags, and join us at the SL®14B Community Celebration as we hit the carnival."

The annual Second Life community/birthday celebration is underway and I stopped by for opening day as I was busy RL for the press day.  I have to say, there was one corner I was very excited about from the minute I saw it.   This was the area of Stupendous Stage Left, The Guardian, by Faust Stamer/Walton F. Wainwright , direct SLURL here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SL14B%20Stupendous/119/200/26) which caught my eye.  Atop this creature sits a cool venue too that was filled with music and dancing visitors.  It's absolutely huge and delectably eclectic and steampunk looking in design. The 3 headed armoured creature moves its heads, blows steam out its nostrils, has a pool at its base you can walk in and be teleported up to the glass tented stage dance and show area he holds atop his back. And believe me, once you've climbed the many steps up to the initial pool, you are ready for that cool teleport. There are some other large and very nice builds in this general area and in all the sections of this huge 18 sim community celebration.

I also very much loved Pan's Labrynth and ultimately Neverland Soiree here.. I hope: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SL14B%20Wonderous/236/27/24

Once again there are associated Linden freebies/prizes (see their home web site for landmarks under the SLURLS tab) there are also SL birthday sales going on around the grid and on the SL Marketplace.

Happy 14th birthday Second Life and to all the residents.  Come out and enjoy the wonderful variety of builds, art, music and other entertainment, etc. representing many of the things residents make and do to contribute to everyone's pleasure and experience.

Dividni Shoshtakovich's Birthday

My good friend and owner/curator of Split Screen Installation Space had a real life birthday recently.  The gang threw me a surprise party for my birthday that was shortly before Divi's.  So when Divi said he didn't want a party for his, I immediately began scheming with the other two Divi's Divas.  Isabelle Mavendorf did an amazing job with the set and choreography/dj, Emma Portilo coordinated, and I contributed venue and ideas and in the end we ended up with a little production. We all 3 prepared roasts to last him another (how many years is it now Divi?)   I won't mention how the actual party turned out since Divi is the master at avoidance, but in the end I was able to film a little bit of the song and dance at a later date to preserve it all.  Some of it's sort of an inside joke, since we got together last year and sprung a surprise makeover on Divi ending in the fuzzy full body animal pajamas and a short machinima to preserve that event as well ... track back here for more on that: http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2011/08/makeover-otherwise-known-as-project_05.html
So this year when we burst out of the cake to dance of course we had to wear those same fuzzy outfits.  Later we followed up with presenting the roasts all the while Divi sat on the hot seat, a special on fire electric chair (another inside joke, since we often drive Divi a little, you know, he wears that straight jacket).  Finally we did a little burlesque Cell Block Tango, becuase of course Divi ... had it coming.

But he knows we all love him dearly.  A few special friends also attended the later filming date.  Thanks everyone.  The vid is small here so I'll add some stills.  Again, hope you had a great birthday this year Divi and just wait till next year. : )

In case you are wondering:   I'm in pink bunny, red burlesque, and yellow dress.   Emma is white cat (I think), white/black burlesque and red/black outfit, and Izzy is black/white panda, blue burlesque and white gown.  Also thanks for hanging out at the filming Gus, Kathy and David, and of course the man of the hour Dividni Shoshtakvich.
*********************************************
As a side note, Divi's SSIS Art space ranked #3 in Levity Magazine's top 10 galleries in Second Life.  I have to say I'm proud to have been a regular supporter in it's first year and Divi has done an amazing job of keeping it going strong.  Check out his blog for all things SL art and more SSIS information here: http://dividni.blogspot.com/
