Mesh
So I got on Firestorm today and bought a Dollcoco Avatar doll and dress. They seem to be all the latest rage. I really wasn't as stable on Firestorm as I am on Phoenix but I just wanted a doll av and I wanted to see Mesh. I love the doll, not as much as my regular avatar, but it is still very cute. I like the Mesh ok. I don't like that my computer crashed a LOT though. Now that I am back on Phoenix it's very stable again. Hmmmm. Anyway.. about the doll. It's a ball pin doll av. So I made a short messy video to save and it shows all, well most, her parts. She came with a free body, but I chose the head that comes with closed eyes and a tear optional heads. I also bought one dress since mesh seems to be body shape specific and had to have one that works with the doll. The doll was able to wear some hair I had already though. I'm thinking it's going to be a while before everyone is on board with this mesh business and in the mean time I am quite sure I looked very goofy to friends who don't have meshed enabled viewers. But it was a fun experiment and I guess eventually we will all go the mesh road. Yeah yeah, the video is poorly edited and a little naughty but at least she made it home before sun-up and it shows most the ball-pin parts to see how the doll looks.

- The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA);
RAWA works to address human rights abuses against women in Afghanistan, and have been doing so since the 1970's. This is a well-established organization that was established by women to tell the difficult, brutal stories of abuses, and to work for political and social change. More about RAWA: http://www.rawa.org/index.php
- The Rural Economic and Agricultural Development Agency (READA) in Cambodia; This group of 15 people are working to address the needs of the poorest people in rural Cambodia. Education, sustainable farming techniques, hygiene and methods to secure clean water are all part of their effort to empower people to escape poverty. More about READA: http://readacambodia.org
- the One Laptop per Child initiative, providing key hardware and software to provide education to those who need it most! Their mission is to empower the world's poorest children through education, and they have a very interesting program of providing low-cost, low-power laptops with learning games and content to communities around the world. The Ultimate Party November 11th, AIRE's 5th Birthday Party
Visit here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ecologia%20Island/127/126/21 or direct link here: AIREHere.

Something will happen the 11/11/11…
…waters will engulf the City, it’s time to leave…
… come on board…
for The ultimate party : 5th Birthday of AIRE Second Life.
Concert Eifachfilm Vacirca & Yotan Korobase
Friday November 11 – 2 pm slt
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ecologia%20Island/125/146/85
http://aire-ville-spatiale.org/111111
The party should be fun and this sim has a LOT to offer. There are a variety of sites and sounds to explore via sky tps, as well as information, shopping etc on the base landing. Just teleport up to a variety of visual and audio experiences. For example there is the 55 Sounds 3d exhibit and the info. in part reads: "55 sounds to the sky is a journey trough 5 stations containing each 11 sounds in order to describe 5 kinds of specific sonic space-times. The idea here is to comment Schroedinger's scale relativity concept : so we will travel from sonic material that got stong identification to very tiny elements - the "scale" of sound will shrink step by step." So check it all out and don't miss the party!

Explore Second Life, Izzies, MetaLES, Solandria, & Nordan Art
I've hit up a few new good explores lately thanks to my friend Cafi Rang turning me on to some additional SL blogs to follow.
**************************************************
Visit Izzie's here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Izzies/128/121/31 or direct link here: IzziesHere.

The first explore is actually a shopping place too. Izzie Button has this adorable sim that is just absolutely beautiful with fall colors and makes for wonderful photos. I explored the outdoors for a long time before I ventured into her store and was equally impressed and surprised I had not come upon this store before as it is great! Izzie has quality clothes, skins, accessories, poses, discount area and amazing customer service when I just IM'd her to ask her a few questions. She said her store's been around a couple of years but new to this location since about June. I told her how much I like her products, as they seem to real and fit well. The sweater and necklace I am wearing in this one pic are from her store. Don't miss this whether you just like a great explore or shopping.. well worth the trip.

*************************************************
Visit Aerie here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/MetaLES/226/226/21 or direct link here: MetaLasHere.

This next explore is "Aerie" in MetaLES by Cherry Manga, an exceptional SL artist I can't seem to keep up with. She keeps making and doing so much that impresses me. This is a creative sim to explore.

************************************************
Visit Solandria here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Overland%20Hills/54/139/33 or direct link here: SolandriaHere.

Solandria is a gorgeous sim for dance, meditation, photos, cuddles, posing, fairies, etc. The sim owner Soleil8 Andel said he has been working on the sim since June and already has a youtube video of the place and facebook group. It is filled with lots of beautiful flowers and scenery, straylights, garden and forest areas as well as beach areas. This might be considered a great date place.

********************************************************
Visit Nordan Art Gallery Here:http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nordan%20om%20Jorden/138/51/2502 or direct link here: NordanHere.

This last explore is actually Nordan Art Gallery I've blogged before but I wanted to add this as Rebeca Bashly who has "Inferno" at LEA (a few posts back I show a video and pics I made) put up a sort of Haunted area at Nordan that will only be up through October 31st, so don't miss it. While there check out the gallery and current artist exhibits on the ground level as well. Nordan always has impressive exhibits.

Through the Lense of Dreams at Art Screamer
Visit here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Art%20Screamer/38/198/36 or direct link here: ArtScreamerHere.

This adorable new build by Madcow Cosmos and Lorin Tone is a very fun visit. If you click items you get cute matching sounds, there are free shoulder pets and a avatar to be had. The note card reads: "Introduction:
"Through the Lens of Dreams" is an exploration of the transformative nature of dreams, where each new setting may emerge from the last and seems continuous while we're experiencing them. The only truly consistent part of a dream is the viewer, that's you. Thus as you walk through the installation you help complete the piece, good work. The piece is more a series of doodles that flow from each other than a single large composition so it seems somewhat sprawling and busy. Just relax and enjoy your own little piece of the whole.

How to enjoy this piece:
Walk, fly, hop, or shimmy as to your preference. Click things, poke them, dance naked around them, or sit on them. Feel free to photograph, make machinima, exactly copy my work by painstakingly reproducing it, or loudly decry it as an assault against good taste, you have the artist's permission!

About the Artists:
Madcow Cosmos is a complete (self described) amateur who came to SL from a cooking background in order to try his hand at some 3D digital art. He provides the visuals for the piece.

Lorin Tone is a real life noise maker and a tasty beverage. He provides the noises for the piece.
Musical selections employed:
"March of the Trolls", by Edvard Grieg
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Starfish", by Lorin Tone
And music that you will create and mix yourself."

Linden Endowment for the Arts- WOW!.. So Much to See and Do!
LEA (Linden Endowment for the Arts) has a LOT going on in SL lately. I previously blogged about Rebeca Bashly's "Inferno" which is a must see explore in the LEA area (scroll down a few posts for info, SLurl, pics and video)
LEA also recently announced LEA has negotiated with Linden Labs to make available twenty new regions for the arts in Second Life. Four regions for exhibitions curated from LEA sandbox art, and two will be allocated through a land rush. Fourteen will be allocated by application. These regions will be awarded to selected artists for a period of five months. After the completion of five months those regions will be transferred to a new set of awardees. Recipients can be considered for a second endowment of five months.
_____________________________________________________________________
Yesterday opened "The Path", an immersive collaborative exhibit that is a must see in LEA (see below) and today is the opening of "Interact" on LEA4 (see below) and also "Survey of Hyperformalists" on LEA1. LEA 3 hosts a twice weekly speed build and LEA3 continues to host Monday night Avatar games which I have previously blogged and participated in and continue to enjoy attending. There is a lot more going on so check out the LEA web site here for more information: http://lindenarts.blogspot.com/ or direct link here: LEAWebsiteHere.

The Path:
Visit here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/LEA2/183/183/23 or direct link here: LEA2PathHere.
There is so much I could say about this but you must just visit, take the notes and enjoy yourself.

1-Bryn Oh

Virtual art can invite, or even insist, that you interact with it. The artists in this exhibition cleverly and creatively make art out of interactions between data, objects, actions, and people within and beyond the virtual world in a stunning array of installations and experiences that stretch the possibilities of virtual art. Expect the unexpected, and click whenever you can. #interactLEA. Again, so much to say, but just visit.

(Secret Rehearsal Room)

Fans are still hungry, hungry like the wolf that is for Duran Duran. Most everyone knows by now that Duran Duran the 1980's to current pop hit group established a very public SL presence this year and previously had a sim, band members had avatars, etc., but this summer the Duran Duran Universe officially opened to the public June 15, 2011 and has had strong SL support from a lot of regular fans with frequent parties including SL video footage shown RL. Some sites of interest in DDU include the eyeball mountains, the UFO Club, The Secret Rehearsal Room (one of my personal favorites to play in), Lipstick Tower, The Mediterranean Spa, Tion Love Chapel, and many other special areas of interest. Duran Duran recently began incorporating Second Life machinima into their latest live concert tour, playing it as visuals behind the stage. I was first made aware of the DDU when Hamlet Au of New World Notes blog reported on the group's established SL presence and upcoming sim opening in June.

My friend Sonicity Fitzroy officially interviewed Duran Duran for the August 2011 BOSL magazine soon after the DDU opening and she gained some wonderful information and insight into the group and their SL presence. Soni did a great job with the story and Lowe Runo, LLC got some cool pics for the article, so I will just link it here http://thebosl.com/august-issue or direct link here: DDUBOSLHere.

(Nick at Beach Party)
I have attended a few DDU SL parties including a July 17th beach party with Nick Rhodes, lead keyboardist, co-founder and song writer present, later a party where Roger Taylor dj'd, an October 1st Outer space/cyber party, and most recently 10-14-11 a superhero party. I have missed several great parties too but there are plenty of cool videos and photos all over Flickr of most of the events that often last for hours and draw huge crowds. Their in-world community manager, Chrissy Welinder, has done a great job of keeping the inworld Duran Duran group advised of events. Vixie Durant, a self-proclaimed big DD fan, often dj's for the parties.

At this point there is a huge SL fan base, some in-world groups, specifically for DDU or about Duran Duran, and multiple Flickr streams and groups with photos and video fans take. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36015225@N02/ direct link here: DDFlickrHere and some good Flickr groups here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/thedduinsecondlife/ or direct link here: DDFlickrGroupHere. and http://www.flickr.com/groups/youravatarintheddu/ or direct link here: DDFlickrGroupHere. There have been SL videos made at some of the parties and even shown during RL Duran Duran events. So, yes, clearly I am a Duran Duran fan, have been since well.. ok I'll date myself, around high school. Since I graduated in 1984 when, as the norm for most teens, music and dancing, including Duran Duran, dominated a big part of life. I'm sure I'll always have special memories to songs like "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Girls on Film", "Rio", "Save a Prayer" and many more. Duran Duran has continued RL success with their recent "All You Need is Now" tour 30 years later to sold out crowds. Wiki states, "Duran Duran are an English band, formed in Birmingham in 1978. They were one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and a leading band in the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" of the United States. Since the 1980s, they have placed 14 singles in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart and 21 in the Billboard Hot 100 and have, according to the Sunday Mercury, sold more than 100 million records."

(DJ Vixie)
Congratulations to Duran Duran for lasting popularity and success in RL and SL. I appreciate their music and look forward to seeing what more they have to offer both RL and SL. Be sure not to miss out on this SL/RL experience.
