It was great to hang out with my long-time friends Sonicity Fitzroy and Belinda Barnes at Soni's radio show "Slowbake" with SL Live Radio today.  It's typically held each Sundays from 12-2pm  unless Soni is out traveling or something.  She plays SL live musician's music and we hang out with whoever joins us dancing to the tunes and having a good time.  Join us some time or you can hear the show during these times wherever SL Live Radio is played inworld or on their stream.

Happening Things Around the Grid Review

Last Sunday I did my weekly events review for SL Live Radio during DJ Soni's Slowbake show and it continues to air other times during the week.  We were on location at the skating area DJ Deepert so beautifully constructed.  Once again I'll repeat most of it here minus the intro and closing.

DJ Soni & Kara Skating SL Live Radio

Lately winter and holiday events have taken over the grid.
I've previously mentioned some of my December favs such as Calas Galahdon's "White Christmas" located here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lost%20Stars/128/128/22
 and previously blogged here: http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/11/white-christmas-at-calas-galahdon-open.html
Laura Liberty's "Christmas Town" here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Townies/128/128/51
and others sims like Silent Night, The North Pole and Candy Cane Lane.

There are also a lot of holiday hunts and gachas like the Falala Gacha http://huntsl.com/2015/11/16/fa-la-la-la-gacha-event/  that runs through the 26th, the Candy Cane 7 grid-wide hunt http://kastlerockhunts.blogspot.com/  that runs through the 25th, and the White Elephant Gacha Holiday Fair http://www.evilbunnysl.com/evil-bunny-home.html running through the 26th and of course Arcade Gacha is open  http://thearcadesl.com/.  Many more can be found inworld and online at the Get Your Hunt on Hunt SL blog.

Another fun holiday activity is checking out all the SL advent calendars where businesses and event organizers give a new freebie each day of the month and I've found the most comprehensive list of locations for these over at the Showtime blog. http://showtimemagazine.net/?page_id=5474 They are also a great source for events and shows in SL. While there be sure to submit you nominations for best entertainers by  December 31st for the 1015 Live Music Awards through Showtime Magazine.  The various categories include venues, new artists, and so forth.

I'd also like to mention I've posted a Holiday Shopping Guide ( here: http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/12/holiday-gift-guide-2015.html)  of some of my favorite gift giving ideas on my blog  filled with expected and some unique ideas such as purchasing a Whispering Sands Live promotions party t-shirt which his also your entry into a raffle for your chance to win a live music show from your choice of their musicians in January. (see
here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Katalin/244/211/22 )

This week LEA will announce their art land grant winners so be prepared fro some great new art exhibits popping up over there.  (update: http://lindenarts.blogspot.com/2015/12/lea-round-10-air-land-grant-artists.html  and take special note of one named "Kara" woot!)    And if you like the art scene be sure to visit MetaLES where they are on their 3rd installation of 4.  And of course Bryn Oh's The Gathering is one of my favorites over at Immersiva here:    http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Immersiva/128/128/34

For you shoppers On9 December Fire and Ice is now open through the 28th featuring exclusive nongacha and gacha items from some of SL's hottest designers. Official website here: https://on9sl.wordpress.com/

And The Dickens Project runs through the 20th that features "A Christmas Carol" over at Brady University benefiting The Community Virtual Library.  They have various other events lined up and there are a couple today including the Raglan Shire Tinie Carolers which I love, so you might enjoy checking out their show over at Seanchai Island-visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bradley%20University/100/209/28 .

That's was it for Sunday's review but of course there is so much more and you can tune into DJ Soni's SL Live show each Sunday from noon to 2pm SLT to hear the weekly review premiere each week or check back on this blog and sometimes I repeat parts of it here.  Her blog about it all and live music in SL is located here: http://sonicityradio.blogspot.com/

Happening Things Around the Grid Review

I'm doing a weekly little voice piece on SL Live radio reviewing events and fun stuff I like around the grid.  You can hear this 2 x during the Slow Bake show with DJ Soni between 12noon SL and 2pm SLT each Sunday.   More info. about her show at the bottom of this page.  I'm trying to post about what I say here too for readers on weeks that I get around to it.   Listen in to hear more each week from myself and DJ Soni. I hope you enjoy it and can use some of the ideas to enhance your time in SL.

Here is what I had to say this week:

Hi Slow Bake fans, It's Kara Trapdoor of Kara's Korner Blogger BlogSpot here again with your weekly, "Happening Things Around the Grid" review.

The Geeks N Nerds event is now open and runs to November 1st.  They always have a lot of fun techy and geeky products and clothes in a cool environment so be sure to check that out. http://geeksnerdssecondlife.blogspot.com/

SL's Got Talent wraps up this week with winners to be announced on Saturday and a 25K 1st place prize to be awarded.  (Round Two, which will be held on Monday, 19th October 2015 starting at 5pm SLT at the Bluebyrd Entertaiment Resort.  The contestants moving on to Rounds two are as follows: Angela McKeenan, Cordeliasloan Resident, Hedy Patrucci, Jeffah, Katiaportugal Genesis, Khiron Ametza, Ladyrok Resident, LeeWinegarden, libertybell Lyric, Mittycoon, Miss Cast, Singsong4u Resident.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer opened yesterday at the Strides 1, 2, and 3 sims with a week of shopping, entertainment and more for a good cause.  My friends Dom, Toxie, and Hogman with Whispering Sands Live Promotions will be there as some of the entertainment.  Whispering Sands Live Promotions signed up yet another talented singer GregKat24 this week.  So be sure to visit his fun shows. http://wslpromo.net/event-board/

If you like to explore I recommend visiting 'Prison' by Cica Ghost this week for a unique contemplative experience. http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/10/cica-ghosts-prison.html

Check out the SL Destination guide for a long list of great Halloween sims and events.  I've previously mentioned and blogged some of my favorites and this week I recommend the Scare to Death Haunted House Ride.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Haunted%20Hollow/128/128/22

Today marks the end of the most recent art exhibit at Windlight Gallery where they are having Russell Epoynm performing live.  Keep an eye on Windlight Magazine for art exhibits, fewllowships, club times, a magazine full of art and other events on the grid, podcasts, tutorials, a haunted house, and now a vlog by myself and Emma Portillo.  http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/10/windlight-gallary-closing-event-for.html

And last but not least I'd like to mention a classy new adult club opening later this week called 'The Inner Room' that features both public and VIP sections. They uniquely offer a variety of rooms with something for everyone including a jazz bar, roman bath house, Boho area, BDSM, gameroom, cigar room, movie theater, burlesque area, main club areas, and social settings just to name a few.  Step into The Inner Room for a night of desires.   This is not just another club but a door to be discovered.

That's about it for this week and now back to DJ Soni and your Sunday afternoon Slowbake radio show.

Happening Things Around the Grid with SL Live Radio

I'm doing a weekly little voice piece on SL Live radio reviewing events and fun stuff I like around the grid.  You can hear this 2 x during the Slow Bake show with DJ Soni between 12noon SL and 2pm SLT each Sunday.   More info. about her show at the bottom of this page.  Last week I didn't get the events posted here that I spoke about on the show so they got extra fun event ideas about things to do in SL.  Listen in to hear more each week from myself and DJ Soni.

Here is what I had to say this week:

Hi Slow Bake fans, It's Kara Trapdoor of Kara's Korner Blogger BlogSpot here again with your weekly, "Happening Things Around the Grid" review.

A quick look at last week includes my foray into the latest MadPea Productions, Peatonville Bay, and Asylum. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Neogene/128/128/18 I also attended Spotlight Production's Great show that runs Tuesdays through Thanksgiving. http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/10/grease-promo.html I highly recommend visiting both.

Yesterday Balecry sang at the United Football League's official season kickoff party.  The cheerleaders also  gave a great performance.  Balecry is with Whispering Sands Live Promotions who picked up two great new musicians this week  Annette Serenade and Nathan Price, Both excellent if you want to check out some new talent around the grid.

Speaking of Whispering Sands Live Promotions their professional organized web site has a fan registry feature with  kiosks popping up at venues around the grid.  If you'd like one please contact Jorrdan Jarman over at WLP.  http://wslpromo.net/

This week I recommend explorers visit Calas Galahdon's Valyria, http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/10/calas-galahdons-valyria-2015-halloween.html their 2015 Halloween sim that is not just your typical haunted house.  It's filled with uniquely designed dark places to explore reminiscent of Game of Thrones.  Halloween Town and Pumpkin Town also are great lighter side fun explores.   Valyria has a schedule of live music events in their cavern for all you live music lovers out there.  Hammer Fla sang at the  opening Oct 2nd .  He's been celebrating his 4,000 performances in SL.  Pretty Impressive!

Shoppers don't forget the Seasons Story opened up last night for some fun shopping too.  Also Burn 2 Carnival of Mirrors Opens October 17th and runs through Oct 23rd.  This is an annual SL event based on First life's Burning Man.

That's all for now folks.  Enjoy your week and now back to DJ Soni with your Slowbake SL Live Radio Show.

Weekly SL Events Review for SL Live Radio

So, many of your know I'm doing a weekly little voice piece on SL Live radio reviewing events and fun stuff I like around the grid.  You can hear this 2 x during the Slow Bake show with DJ Soni between 12noon SL and 2pm SLT each Sunday.   More info. about her show at the bottom of this page.

Here is what I had to say this week:

Hi Slow Bake fans, It's Kara Trapdoor of Kara's Korner Blogger BlogSpot here again with your weekly, "Happening Things Around the Grid" review.

This past week Windlight Magazine won the 2015 Innovative Media Award for Best Arts and Culture Magazine. http://windlightmagazine.com/  Congratulations to them as well as Whispering Sands Live Promotions who had 103 new bookings for their musicians in Second Life in just 27 days.  That's pretty impressive! http://wslpromo.net/

Later today the MadPea annual Celebrity Auction wraps up their weekend of events.  Be sure to hurry over for their final day including the live celebrity auction as well as the silent bid boards.  There are numerous Lindens, Draxtor with his machinima, Bryn Oh, many musicians, and many other people including myself up for auction.  SL Live radio is also involved in this event that is a fundraiser raising money to build schools with Live and Learn in Kenya.  All for a good cause. http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/09/madpea-celebrity-auction-and-events.html

Another fun thing to do is visit the Meshavenue SepSTEAMber shopping event for tons of great steampunk type shopping in an amazing sim to explore.  But hurry over as this will close Sept 30th.  Then their October events will be in Hollywood Glam style. http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/09/sepsteamber.html

October 1st Halloween Town by Laura Liberty opens and it's always an annual favorite.  October also brings Octoberfests, Halloween haunted houses, hunts and costume parties.  http://secondlife.com/destinations/haunted

This week we also have a new impressive live music venue opening. http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2015/09/harmony-gardens-venue-grand-opening.html Gorgeous Harmony Gardens will have a full lineup of live music at their grand opening October 3rd in the Carolina beach sim.   Nicky Tams Pub  in Lock London Scotland is also very new and They've booked many live musicians for October as well.

October brings a lot of fall sim décor changes and a beautiful artistic and fun sim to explore is High Water.  See info. and direct links at Kara's Korner SL Adventures. http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/

That's all for now.  Enjoy your SL week and now back to DJ Soni with your Slow Bake SL Live radio show.

Weekend Highlights: Exploring, Music, Parties

First of all I'd like to wish everyone a happy mother's day, mom's, dads, aunts, any adult who "mother's" children at time.. as it take a village and all that, and children need good adults in their lives, especially their mothers.

Next I figured I'd just blog post some of the stuff I did this weekend.  Some of the SLurls can be used for exploring and music in the future and a couple of the events were one time deals, but I figured I'd post my pics.

Life in a Bowl, by Cica Ghost.  This full sim art installation/explore opened today Sunday, and since I love Cica's work, I ran over late once I heard about it.  It's cool, as expected, so be sure to visit. Yes, it's realistic looking (not Cica's typical style) and well done, but what is not realistic are the giant fish tanks about the island. Very interesting indeed.

I visited LEA 18 by Frank Lefavre: Cocytus The 9th Circle of Hell, Dante's Inferno.  This is a cool explore.  Be sure to let the sim control your windlight, as it really makes for the ambiance.

I spent Sunday evening at THE DIRTY GRIND INDEPENDENT ARTIST COMMUNITY
first with Billy Thunders, as he followed DenmnyMac who I missed as I was RL, then Reggie Sunset.  We enjoyed some acoustic blues, roots and contemporary folk-rock.  While there I also enjoyed the great Steampunk style sim and the artwork by Kiesta Aljon, this month's featured visual artist, in SL's premier steampunk venue.  I love this sim and hang out here quite a big for a great explore sim, some of SL's best live musicians, friendly people, and the art.  A great combo for me.   The sim is owned and run by Lisa and Ian Witt.

Later Sunday I went to After Dark to see one of my fav Sl musicians Saramarie Philly at, Singer-Songwriter pianist performs LIVE Today's Hit Pop Covers, Originals, a great party with great people in this casual venue that's been around a is a great live music spot for a long time.  More on Sara here:  http://saratiemogo.com/saramariephilly/ Both this place and The Dirty Grind have great crowds when they have their live musicians and it's always a fun time.  Saramarie was followed by another of my favs, Redheaven who used to go by the name Dragonfy in SL.. Joel Eilde.  I've been going to hear him since he started in SL and then he took a little break and is back full force with a puts on a great show.  Red Heaven is a Canadian band which plays original, full-band rock music. He played music from his latest album Moth, hit prior album, Amplification, and a few others.  More info. here:

Sunday midday I hung out with my good friend DJ Sonicity Fitzroy and the gang over at SL Live Radio.  Soni's DJ gig every Sunday from 12noon -2pm SLT features some of the best of the best of SL's live musicians.  It's a nice combo of music from some of the musician's listed above and so many more.  DJ Soni's focus for her show Slowbake is the SL live musicians.  The station features a variety of DJs and music though, which can be streamed into stores or land too, but their live shows are fun so be sure to check out Soni's on Sundays. http://sonicityradio.blogspot.com/

Saturday I went to a Prince and Princess birthday party for a group of people.  I dressed at Khaleesi from Game of Thrones and there were a lot of Disney prince and princess etc.  This is a fun and nice group of people  who had this private party in a huge castle.  The princess of honor was Laure Marie Davi along with a few others with close birthdays.. the main group being:  Chloee Davi, Kathy Nikolaidis, Christopher Leon, Arwen Clarity, Kyrene Grace Glendevon, Ena Roane, Ashland Peris, Deriand Humphreys, Mercy Mangala, and Veronica Lynn Parx, I think.

SL Live Radio will be hosting it's new studio grand opening party this Friday 10-24-14 from noon to 4pm SLT.   Today DJ Sonicity Fitzroy was hosting her show "Slow Bake" featuring SL musicians on her radio show in the new studio, so we all got a sneak peek. I took a photo so you can see how cool it is with a lot of moving lights, etc.  There are free SL Live shirts too.  We can all hang out with any of the DJ's during their shows there.
