2015 SL Veteran's Tribute Sim and Events

I'd like to thank all the veterans who've served or given their life for our country and freedoms (others) .  There are a lot of things going on in SL in remembrance and to pay tribute and I found one place I especially like that I want to share here.  Not only do they have a name wall area, flags, vignettes, information, things to leave in remembrance/honor on the wall memorial, nice décor etc., they also have events.  (see 2nd pic for events schedule)

Their landing note states: "Welcome to the 2015 SL Veteran’s Tribute which will be set up until  November 13th.  This is the 8th annual Veteran’s Tribute that we have put together.

The Tribute itself is non-political and serves one purpose and one purpose only and that is to honor all the men and women that have given willing of their time to protect the lives we enjoy today.
The goal of the Tribute is to provide a non-political, content filled, educational, interactive SIM inside Second Life where men and women of all walks of life can visit and provide remembrance and honor to those who have served in the Armed Services.
The tribute operates on a zero dollar budget and are non-profit; the entire tribute is built, funded, organized and executed on a purely volunteer basis. We have an organized group on SL called the “SL Veteran’s Tribute” if you would like to look it up.  This group will be used as the basis of our planning and scheduling for the Tribute.

Most of my friends know I've been spending a lot of time lately in an amazing new sim, "The Station".  I've been getting to know all the regulars who have worked on various things around the sim from clubs to stores, to management, and of course the builder, Enigmantic Deir.  But this post is about one of the very sweet regulars who was around from the inception of the sim, and was actually present when the first prim was laid: Co-owner of The Attic, open mic club, and DJ, and 7 year SL resident,  Chevel Arrow, known to most as Chev and recently as Chev Wildwood, as she had reconnected and partnered with Seth Wildwood.    

I did not know Chev for long but what I did know of her impressed me as a very sweet person and everyone I've talked to says the same.  Apparently she was a genuine sweety according to all.  She also shared a flower shop on the sim with Kim.   Sadly Chev passed away RL October 4th, 2013 which came as a shock to all.  Her SL profile  has been adjusted to now read, "You will forever be remembered by those whose souls you touched. Rest in Peace, Grandma. And smile when you see Great Grandpa Hobert. I know you missed him so much.

The Station staff changed the name of the "The Attic" to "Chev's Attic", in memory of her.  10-18-13 at 1pm SLT one of Chev's favorite live musician's, Yip Jannings, will perform at Chev's Attic. I'm sure it will be a bitter sweet time, but hopefully one everyone can enjoy for what it's intended, remembering Chev, and enjoying  good tunes, good times, and good fun----which happens to be the sim theme.

Come on out 10-18-13 at 1pm to hear one of Chev's long time favorite SL musicians, Yip Jannings.  Explore this impressive sim and be sure to ride up to the floating city and Miri's club and find all kinds of hidden places to enjoy.  Much more info. about this amazing sim to follow on this blog, as a very special art exhibit is under construction with opening party to be announced soon, a hunt begins the 15th and there is always much to see and happening around the sim. Unfortunately I will be working RL at the time of this event, but I'm sure it will be a lot of fun and also a good time to remember a special and sweet person, Chev. 

A bit more info. on the sim: The sim's brilliantly executed steampunk theme thus far is home to The Floating City that primarily consists of Miri's Rock Club at The Station, The haunted fun house, The New Orpheum Theater (can be booked for free!), The Rube-Goldberge Slingshot ride, A Floating Train Ride System, 3 person zeppelins, Zeppelin docs, and various other fun places to find.  The Dead City is home to The Attic Club which is in The Attic Hotel, The Old Orpheum Theater, The Dead City Hotel and Casino, an underground aquarium dance floor, the human cannonball ride that opens into a steampunk bird glider, Dead City Trolleys, underwater diving area, Greedy gaming hall, balloons (some with special places for relaxing with friends or couples), rooms and shops, some cool freebies such as scuba gear to be found underwater, and plenty of other things to see and explore. I personally love all the hidden areas.  Check it out any time.

BOSL Fashion Week Is Upon Us!

BOSL Fashion Week is finally here again and I always look forward to these impressive events that not only showcase some of SL's best fashion but also the premiere artist builds, sets and effects. Fashionistas come out in groves dressed to impress and this is always a great opportunity to enjoy a show and get some good shopping ideas, socialize at the fun after parties, and mingle with friends in some very cool settings.   Be sure to join the BOSL readers group for current details and links at times of shows, visit the BOSL galleria or follow the blog.  (More details below)

The Best of Seconf Life CEO/owner, Mr. Frolic Mills announced, "Today we pay tribute to a wonderful artist. A woman of great talent that helped shape our virtual  If you open Squinternet Larnia's profile, you will see that she still has "Winner of BOSL Award 2011" - and I well remember when she opened an IM to me that day and said, "OMG Frolic I am so happy, I am crying" He said, Squinter, if you are watching, this is for you. We love you and celebrate your accomplishments today. We won't forget.

 She lived her life with perseverance and commitment, loved tightly, with fierce passion, fought when needed and forgave when expected and sometimes when it was least expected.  Boulevard Model Management models chose to commemorate Squinternet by mixing and matching her designs to give back to Donna Flora their unique interpretations of the design line.

The opening show yesterday showcased the late Donna Flora's gorgeous products in a London set.  Of course all the regulars showed up for a large crowd to enjoy this beautiful and sentimental show.

Today's show was in a rainy set complete with free umbrellas for the attendees, many of whom popped them out creating even more ambiance to this already amazing set.  The pics can show all but hardly give the feel for how fun it was.  I was late in so took some last minute shots including one of myself.  The cats of course were some of the fun accessories by KittyCats, Callie Cline.

Lest We Forget 9-11 Tribute at Moon Spirit Rising

Event info. states:
"9/11/13 September 11, Tribute at Moon Spirit Rising with DJ Sunflower 5:00 to 7:00 PM SLT
Please join us for a special set with DJ Sunflower our favorite New Yorker. As we pay tribute with all those angels we lost on that fateful day 9/11/01
Patriot Day where red white and blue. Come see the wonderful tribute display we have put together,.
God Bless America and God Bless us all." sic  The place is decorated nicely for this memorial tribute and there is a box full of free related goodies for guests to pick up. 

I'm glad people in SL are doing memorials .. it was a sad day in history and I remember most things RL about this day 9-11-2001.  It was a terrible tragedy but people united in support.

I'm sort of at a loss for words for once.  Someone special in Second Life and First Life has passed on to yet another life.  Squinternet Larnia/Donna Flora passed on Sept 4, 2013 from terminal breast and bone cancer, and I feel I would be amiss if I did not at least blog a little about her.  I did not know her well, but spoke with her a few times and she was very kind.  She was deeply loved by many to the extent there has been a huge fund raiser, Love Donna Flora, that started in July resulting in over 12K to help treat and ease her pain.  Please take the above link to read all the details and information including memorials that are in the works. There are even some RL music videos where Squinternet herself is singing.  It's all very touching.  I'm sure even those who didn't have the pleasure of being close to her in SL will feel this loss as she is felt through all her many lovely designs bought by so many people.  Her store is still open, although I have no idea what will come of it.  It's loaded with wonderful haute couture clothes, jewelry, hair, shoes, hats, and various accessories from a variety of periods.

I had a conversation with some random shopper in the store today and it could have been a conversations between any Donna Flora shoppers and it went something like this:
me:  hi I'm sorry to bother you but do you know.. is someone taking over the store?
her: Hi Kara ... no .. I don't know.
me:  Kara Trapdoor: ok.. thanks anyway.. so sad
her: I love her work and would like to pick up a couple of my faves just in case it closes
me: yes
her: It's so very sad .. she fought very hard I think.
me: Yes  sounds like it
me: She'll be missed.
me: I didn't really know her personally.... only of her really .. I  have talked with her though.. very nice ... but I feel a loss really .. through her things I think we feel closer. I absolutely  love her designs
her: I didn't know her ... but I so enjoy her work.
me: Prob many of us feel the same
her: I'm sure.
her: There was an ava here earlier with her name ... family, maybe, so hopefully the shop will remain open.   will miss her work, tho, and feel so badly for her family.
me: I feel the same.

And so while I was there other shoppers commiserated along the same vein.
