Split Screen October "Boogaloo" Exhibit by Soror Nishi and Opening Party October 2nd

Visit here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Beleza/74/9/22 or direct link here: SplitScreenHere.
Split Screen
The Split Screen artist of the month is Soror Nishi who presents "Boogaloo" which is a magical garden of wonderfully colored and shaped trees and plants, "Scotti the Dragon", bean forest, and campfire with mushroom seating all brought to life in the special colorful, magic way that only Soror does. Dim the lights, enjoy the sounds and explore the swamp and forest area. The opening party will be held at 2pm SLT Sunday October 2nd. The sim usually fills fast so come early to enjoy dancing with dj Isabelle Mavendorf, or try to bump in later during the event. It's always a lot of fun at Split Screen.
Split Screen
(Kara with Exhibit curator, Dividni Shostakovich)
Soror's artist staement for the exhibit reads, ""The extensive attempts some make to populate this new world with "realistic" copies of the Old World show a colonial tendency to ignore the native culture and superimpose a pre-formed visual style on this new medium. This may be due to a fear of the new, or simply a lack of courage, hopefully Time will eradicate this anachronistic tendency."

Feed A Smile Fundraiser Event Now through Oct 2, 2011

Direct link to schedule of events: http://www.loveliinc.com/main#!__schedule or click here: EventsHere.

circle of life

memory thorne_003

Press Release states:
"September 2011 – In order to raise money and provide positive change to the extreme poor of the Rhonda Slums of Nakuru, Kenya, Live and Learn in Kenya NGO and Loveli Inc would like to announce the Feed A Smile Charity Fashion Event 2011.

This year’s Event begins September 17th and runs through October 2nd. It is being held online at the FeedASmile For Loveli Sim

http://slurl.com/secondlife/FeedASmile%20For%20Loveli/191/128/56

and features fashion shows, auctions, sales, live music events, art exhibits and more.

Live and Learn in Kenya NGO is a non-profit, charity organization working to aid the impoverished people – especially the children - living in Kenya. Loveli Inc is a fashion and art company that believes in giving back to their worldwide community through charitable work.

Together, these two dynamos of change are looking to double last year’s results which netted the 2010 Feed A Smile campaign over 2 Million Lindens. This years goal is doubled at 4 Million and the 2011 program would provide incredible strides in helping starving, sick and suffering children because 100% of the proceeds go to help the poor of Kenya and, for example, one child receives a complete, nutritious meal for a mere $0.41! or $100L. Children receive education and medical assistance as well.
Also, with LLK operating through the Second Life online virtual charity community – Nonprofit Commons, contributors can trust in the NGO’s security as the managers of Nonprofit Commons thoroughly screen every organization for validity and authenticity.

Those wishing to help make a difference in the lives of precious children in Kenya can make donations and/or volunteer time and expertise to the event as well as spread the word.

The Loveli Inc. Models CEO and Loveli Inc Partner Mellificent Juneberry says, “This year’s event will be bigger than ever before and reach even more children to put a smile on their faces. We have already had some major contributors join our efforts this year… but we need YOUR help! We can’t do it without you.”

About the Organization: Live and Learn in Kenya NGO, located in Selb, Germany, and its “daughter” organization Live and Learn in Kenya International NGO are non-profit, charity organizations. LLK works to combat desolation, hunger and thirst, poverty, illiteracy, AIDS, child prostitution, child brides, etc of those living in the Rhonda Slums of Nakuru, Kenya.

You can find out more by visiting www.loveliinc.com

For more information and how you can get involved Please contact Liata Exonar, Mellificent Juneberry or Brique Topaz

Join the Circle of Life!"

There is a lineup of fun events and as I danced tonight I was provided some up to date info from Liata Exonar who said, "As a matter of fact I can also tell you that this Sunday some of what we've raised so far is actually going to feed some kids this Sunday and what the LLK director called a Loveli Inc Meal party in Kenya, so that news came in this morning we've been inspired so much." Looks like a success already. Come join the fun and help out for a good cause. Party at NeoVictoria

I was at a fun party tonight at NeoVictoia, which is a steampunk role play area featuring machinima information and areas. I previously blogged this very cool sim here: http://karasecondlife.blogspot.com/2010/06/neovictoria.html NeoVictoriaHere.
party
Tonight was a big party and auction to enhance community and raise a few extra Linden for the sims. I was actually very pleased to win the services of DJ Altair Swords who I have plans to DJ at the haunted mansion for another party soon. The party theme was Dark Alice so I snapped some pics of the cool costumes.

The Mad Hatter, A Cool New Events Venue

harper_008
(Harper & Raspbury)

I dropped in to the new events venue, The Mad Hatter, in time to catch Harper Messmer and Raspbury Rearwin dual streaming tonight. There was a good crowd for this event and the venue itself was fun to check out. Raspbury continued singing alone with his keyboards and guitar after he dual streamed with Harper.

The Mad Hatter is owned by Dani Sarjeant and Jayson Massenberg. Situated in the grunge sim of Dark Realm this venue has all the asthetic details to make it a delight to see and hang out in as well as enjoy the talent. Dani said, "We started having live artists early August. Actually August 11th was our first show featuring, Harper Messmer. :) The Mad Hatter has always been a dream of Jay's. He has always wanted a place where artists can come and play for free. We actually do not rely on any of the tips we generate because we live here. We never charge or take a percentage." Dani and Jayson actually live in the mainland and this area is in the sky which I didnt initially notice as it's a large area filled with highly detailed shops. Jayson said they don't charge rent for their shops. I asked about the sim and style. Razobladejacket is opening up a store here and Tink tattoo is also in Dark Realm. I cammed and saw clothing stores, eye stores, an adorable grocery that gave me free stuff, plus various other stores. I also saw there is a subway, a tall building that has a casino, bowling and other things. Dani stated, "We love the grunge look and decided the zombie side is a great way to get people here and they can have some fun. we turn those off when we have events lol" "There are so many talented people in SL. We just hope that people can come here and enjoy the venue and appreciate what these artists do." It really is very cool looking and with the talent and crowds tonight I'm sure they will ejoy great success. Check it out here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dark%20Realm/197/192/1163 or direct link here: TheMadHatterHere.

Holodeck

I visited my friend Shield Markus who is a fellow Kansan at the Ultimate Holodeck today. They are so cool I figured I'd blog them so if someone hasn't seen these yet they won't miss out. These holodecks are fun just to check out really, but even better they are for sale too and the store has been open since Feburary 2009. It's like the ultimate explore all in one spot. They can all be demo'd in 360 degree scenes rezzed from menus. I imagine these are amazing for sim owners who have rental skyboxes, shop owners, individuals who want their land and use these around skyboxes to live in as sim extenders, scenery props for photographers, etc. I played around in the demos and you can see the menus I have showing that for each holodeck changes the scenery and you can even add your own scenes. Developers are Vander Reich, Richsz Rexen and Shield Markus. The holodeck instructions will soon be in many different languages. I was taking photos and Shield showed up so he gave me some more info. about the holodecks.

Our sole purpose is to help those that are struggling financially get through the holiday season. We have fundraisers throughout the year and raise money to be given out at the beginning of December.
We do our very best to ensure that the people we help are truly in need." Miso Susanowa at Split Screen

Visit Split Screen here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Beleza/74/201/1501 or direct link here: MisoSplitScreenHere.

Split Screen has two artists preparing their exhibits for August for the normally scheduled bi-monthly double artist large immersive installation Split Screen hosts. But in the interim, Miso Susanowa has her "Time As A Helix of Semi-Precious Stones" piece on the Split Screen platform for all to enjoy. " Set to Midnight, have particles to at least 4096 under Graphics, and turn local sounds on loud (not the music stream). You can sit on the build too!" Just my style.. art to play in! But for all you techys there is a lot more to it.

Miso's associated note relays some of the thought put into the installation. She presents as a Composition for Kandinsky saying, " Kandinsky saw houses and churches decorated with such shimmering colours that he said "...upon entering them I had the impression that I was moving into a painting." Music was also a critical influence on his painting and this piece has a soundtrack that plays with time. In Kandinsky’s work, some characteristics are obvious while certain touches are more discrete and veiled; they reveal themselves only progressively to those who make the effort to deepen their connection with his work.

Right-click to sit on the Mondrian grid and use your camera to look up, down and around the piece to enjoy the experience of Kandinsky's vision translated into 3D. Try all preset lightings.

You can get a mouselook view by pressing Esc twice. If you prefer an outside cam view and you get Mouselook on sitting, unsit, then use your cam controls to move your cam, then resit."

"The title is adapted from the Samuel R Delany story, "Time Considered as a Helix of Semi-precious Stones," a title which always has invoked for me a mystical, philosophic mood quite apart from the story itself; a kind-of abstract mantra guaranteed to put me in a reflective mood."

The note goes on to state...."I am fascinated at the computer's ability to make infinite shadings and tonals of color combined with translucency/reflection/transparency; a plastic fantastic palette."

While I was visiting and taking video someone (whom I wasn't fast enough to ask permission to quote) posed the question to Miso in the Split Screen group asking, "would it defy time if the direction of rotation of the panels was from the red to the green?
[16:34] Miso Susanowa: erm.... i am not in control of the particles/panels
[16:34] Miso Susanowa: the wind controls some; physics controls the rest
[16:34] Miso Susanowa: the particles are being sent out in rotating semi-random patterns, in the math
[16:35] visitor: oh
[16:35] Kara Trapdoor: I knew that
[16:35] Kara Trapdoor: : ) NOT
[16:35] Kara Trapdoor: Diviiiiii
[16:35] Dividni Shostakovich: ;-)
[16:35] Kara Trapdoor: hahaha
[16:35] Dividni Shostakovich: hi Kara!
[16:35] Kara Trapdoor: hey
[16:36] visitor: perhaps I chose a bad moment to look at its rotation
[16:36] Dividni Shostakovich: more likely a good moment, because it suggested things to you
[16:36] Miso Susanowa: the patterns used by the generators have different "shapes" to their dispersion
[16:36] Miso Susanowa: those dispersal patterns were then randomized by hand...
[16:37] Miso Susanowa: and then some few, interspersed, were made subject to wind
[16:37] Miso Susanowa: so any "patterns" that show up are basically coincidence
[16:39] visitor: well I like it
[16:39] Miso Susanowa: thanks!
[16:39] visitor: how long will it be here?
[16:39] Miso Susanowa: *points to Dividni* ask him
[16:39] Miso Susanowa: he's the honcho :)
[16:40] Dividni Shostakovich: actually I don't know -- it's officially an "interim" piece between the next two big builds, but if the artists there don't need the prims then "Helix" will stay up -- the last interim piece, Misprint Thursday's "Digital Glove," stayed up for three months
[16:41] Kara Trapdoor: beam me up scotty I want to see...
[17:07] Dividni Shostakovich: :-)
[17:07] Miso Susanowa: and I didn't want it in a giant black box... yet on the ground, the focus gets grabbed by seeing things through it
[17:07] Dividni Shostakovich: I'm glad you could put it up in full form here -- and I didn't even know!
[17:07] Miso Susanowa: this is how I made it
[17:08] Miso Susanowa: in IW I have it much much larger, and the trees are set on the mountains
[17:08] Miso Susanowa: as for the meteor
[17:08] Miso Susanowa: i dunno. I put it and took it out a half dozen times
[17:09] Miso Susanowa: it just seems to balance things
[17:09] Dividni Shostakovich: it's funny how those things work
[17:09] Dividni Shostakovich: i like it
[17:09] Miso Susanowa: to give a nice horizontal depth in a line with the grid and between the trees
[17:10] Miso Susanowa: a lot of elements in my work are not plotted
[17:10] Miso Susanowa: i am more a sculptor than builder
[17:10] Miso Susanowa: as I work, my hands do things and then i try to listen to what they are telling me
[17:11] Miso Susanowa: then perhaps I assemble an "overview" of the piece... but it is the making of it that informs me
[17:11] Miso Susanowa: my hands know things I don't

Well I just thought those were cool quotes from the maker of the exhibit since the first part was way over my head, as indicated by my interjections : ) and the last provides some insight into the artist. Check out this cool fun exhibit and keep your landmarks for Split Screen that seems to be hosting some of the best artists SL has to offer since opening.

Miso made a machinima of this too.. and you can check it out on Divi's blog here:http://dividni.blogspot.com/ or direct link here: DiviMisoHere.

Split Screen June Installation-Eliza Wierwight, Douglas Story and Desdemona Enfield Exhibits

July '11: Article by Kara Trapdoor, Photographer Kara Trapdoor - Split Screen Opening
Hurry over to Split Screen, as there is only a week left for the two June exhibits: "D. Construct" exhibit by Douglas Story and Desdemona Enfield and "FlowerDrum" by Eliza Wierwight. Eliza's "FlowerDrum" provides the visitor vignettes of the Orient in her life. "D. Construct" is housed inside a dark ball and instructions let visitors know to click on one of the many small famous paintings on the wall. Once this is done a large replica shows on the wall. The sign guides visitors through clicking the large picture again to see it basically fall apart in color disc pieces to a pile on the ground, and subsequent clicks cause the discs to fly back up creating a moving colorful light show experience prior to the original picture being reconstructed. Visitors are encouraged to play on the art. Media is used in Split Screen exhibits.
July '11: Article by Kara Trapdoor, Photographer Kara Trapdoor - Split Screen Opening

My friend, Dividni Shostakovich who is curator, states, "The Split Screen Installation Space is place where artists and builders develop and exhibit large installations. Two artists use the space for two months, and then other artists take over. The space is meant for large builds that utilize the possibilities of Second Life as an artistic or immersive medium, such as works that are impossible in real life."

AcousticEnergy Nitely

AcousticEnergy Nightly
Last night, 6-15-11, celebrated AE's induction into the SpiritFire Entertainment Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. His group has over 1000 members and there was a 2 hour party to celebrate. Friends made a video commemoration that was shown, followed by the award and some good music and dancing. Sher Salmson, his manager who runs Spiritfire Entertainment, said a few words and presented AE with an award statue, as seen in the photo above with Spiritfire partner Nyna Slate. Attendees were offered a cute teddy bear that plays one of AE's original tunes. The venue, Dragon Moon, owned by Nyna Slate, held a large crowd and was decorated in true Hollywood style with a red carpet entry adorned with paparattzi. The stage was flanked by two huge replicas of the award statue and the stage itself had a car seat with cooler next to it that was also seen numerous times throughout the commemoration video. AE is a great guy with a great voice, check out his shows some time. The commemoration video filmed by Doris Fereszk, can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperDoris65?feature=mhee or direct link here: AEVidHere.

SaraMarie Philly

SaraMarie has an amazing voice, writes music, and plays several instruments. She also has a great stage presence and a special "Red" game the audience can play along with.
Her bio. reads:

"★★★SaraMarie Philly★★★
★★★Singer/Songwriter ★★★
Original and Cover Pop Music

★Piano, Guitar, Voice, Ukelele, Rubberband Box (kidding!)★

★ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in Indiana. (USA) My parents both had factory jobs, but we also had a small rabbit farm. In college, I studied Voice, Piano, Clarinet and Violin at Indiana State University, and graduated from West Chester University in 2010 with a degree in Music Education.

★ABOUT MUSIC
Playing music for people creates a connection that goes beyond what can be expressed in converation. For me, it's a way of sharing life experiences and expressing empathy for the experiences of the listener. These connections are what keep people interested in an artist's music, and what keep an artist interested in sharing it. As a performer, connecting to my audience is important to me.

★RL MUSIC STUFF:
In RL, I have a CD release planned for 2011. The songs are recorded. I'm just waiting for them to be mixed and mastered by grammy-Nominated Producre, James Cravero. The CD is titled "Red" and has 12 fully produced original songs.

GreenBurg, A Cool Sim to Explore

I've been popping in and out of GreenBurg the past week or two and find great new things upon each return trip.
The Dance

Check it out here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/GreenBurg/128/128/24 or direct link here: GreenBurgHere.
The sim is gorgeous with a fantasy like atomoshpere that works wonders in the windlight for my photos. There is a moon and star with hanging swing at a decorated platform build that is loaded with poses and dances, there are dandelion fluffs you can rez and ride around, a double deep huge beautiful cave area loaded with romantic pose balls and props (don't think they were all pg) whimsical dragons, statues, frog prince, singing ram trio visuals along the way, multiple dance pavillions and sky islands, the dancing sea drykes, small buildings of various design to explore and so much more. This is another must visit sim and it's even better with a date or friends.

Dragonfly

dragonfly_010

A relatively new SL performer, Dragonfly, is at Lingual Marcus' NYC Rooftop venue as I write this up. Dragonfly, Joel Eilde, has been performing RL for a while but recently began his Second Life musical career. It appears he came out running with a long list of originals and others in his song list. I'd describe his sound a bit of alternative and very refreshing for a live musician in SL, as it's a little unique from most the others. My very favorite song he sings is one of his originals, My Second Life Love Affair, which is a humorous look at a SL romance with a catchy tune. Dragonfly's schedule can be found online here: https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=jwcorey%40gmail.com or direct link here: DragonflyHere.

Ling's rooftop studio venue is always good for a great Monday night lineup of live musicians. Check it out some time and while there have a peek below into Ling's gallery. http://slurl.com/secondlife/New%20York%20NYC/195/56/66 or direct link here: NYCLingHere.

Firefly Gallery

Firefly gallery
My Flickr and SL friend, Michiel Bechir, handed me this poster and landmark today. His SL photo art is being featured on the upper level of the Firefly Gallery. Vikki Hastings, Fairweather Sorbet, and Leonard Farshore exhibit in the lower level. Michiel also shows at Augger's Gallery that is featured in this month's BOSL magazine.

I met up with Lothar Leborski, an art instructor, who explained this exhibit is affiliated with Cal State Long Beach, CA. This is the "virtual campus". The exhibit will be set up Sunday and Monday, students have in-class presentations Tuesday morning then the actual SL exhibit opening will be Tuesday May 3rd running through the following Sunday. The idea of the exhibit is that the students choose the artists, name a gallery after them, then they do a presentation on them and after that, they will exhibit their own work in these galleries.

Lothor said, "This is just our 2nd semester doing this so we feel like we've come a long way, but we also have a lot of ideas for doing better work next fall. The students work on the galleries on a platform over our heads at 500 meters. They can be different things... but typically photo-ish. In our lecture room they give 2 presentations... 1st half of the semester they present the artist, and then in the 2nd half they present the gallery they've created. It's an introduction to the Visual Arts course... so we do everything from the Chauvet Cave... to Bryn Oh..., Painting, Virtual, all of it. Instead of lecture format, we try to make it an active experience. The content comes largely from student presentations on a wide range of artists." He added, "We've just had this island for a year... and just a couple weeks ago we got our first "real" lab space on campus... so things are coming along for us. I really like the SL environment for turning "art appreciation" into an active learning experience. The TA's and I very much believe that it's a way to engage them on a much more powerful level."

I am very glad to see more students receiving this kind of experience. This should be a interesting exhibit, so be sure to check it out.
