"from here on there be dragons", by alpha Auer at Split Screen Installation Space

Visit Split Screen Installation Space, "from here on there be dragons" by Alpha Auer here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Amra/16/236/22

This exhibit runs November 20th, 2016 through January 31, 2017

Split Screen owner and curator, Dividni Shostakovich, writes about this exhibit: "In a faintly futuristic building, golden dragons roam. Some are Chinese, others are European.  Their reflections shimmer beneath them. And on the floor these imaginary beasts walk upon are images from an old map. Come see "from here on there be dragons" by Alpha Auer, one of the most distinctive artists in Second Life. At Split Screen Installation Space until 31 January 2017."

That pretty well sums it up, although Alpha has a nice note card at the landing about her exhibit and I'll quote but a small excerpt here: "When Medieval and Renaissance map makers got to the edge of the world, they used to write "beyond this place there be dragons," meaning dangerous or unexplored territories that sailors should beware of before attempting to cross into them."

The surrounding build is done in recognizable Alpha style, colors, and reflections.  The golden dragons are detailed creatures congregating about the interior of the structure. Some are holding large pearls or balls and almost seem to be playing a game or greeting one another, although seem to be of various breeds or styles.   There is also a cool free avatar/costume by Alpha at the landing so be sure to grab that too on your way in or out. As always, Split Screen hosts talented artist and Alpha has done a great job here. I mostly used the designated sim windlights for the below pics but as you can see I changed it up once and the first small pic I didn't take, as that's the official sim ad..

Sunday the 27th of April at 1pm second life time, a collaborative Second Life work, The Russian Avante- Garde, opens in LEA8.  The virtual world exhibition is featured on four interactive viewing stations within the Museum and was created by Alpha Auer (Turkey), Bryn Oh (Canada), Caer Balogh (USA), Eupalinos Ugajin (France), Jo Ellsmere (USA), Nessuno Myoo (Italy) and Soror Nishi (UK). This is all part of a bigger RL exhibit held in the main exhibition hall of Moscow’s Manege Museum.  Tomorrow the SL exhibit is opening and will be streamed live and included in the RL exhibit thanks to Peter Greenaway (UK) and Saskia Boddeke/Rose Borchovski (Holland) and supported by the British Council.

The whole area is very interesting and I posted many pictures a short time ago on this blog if you care to scroll back, but at this time I will focus on the Coppelian  bots by Jo Ellsmere, and made a little video recording of their movements.  I am quite mesmerized by them.  But go see the immersive exhibit before watching this video, as the exhibit is so impressive life-size and in person, well, virtual person : )  Enjoy!

Little Red Riding Hood-The Other Side of the Story-Opened Today 2-17-13

Little Red by Kara 2
(Cherry and Analy)
Cherry Manga (dressed as Little Red) and Analy Piers (Snow White with a following of dwarfs) led tours today starting at 12 SLT through their exhibit opening at The Companion. Suggested windlight was Tor Sci Fi Bridge Oper 1 which was just amazing  (Also try A-3AM as it's very different but clearer and you can see Soror's trees in better color) WOW! We, the party of tourist through this exhibit, were amazed at the ebbing and flowing glowing colorful, yet dark, world around us. And yes, it is a VERY adult and graphic version of the old 1790 Brothers Grimm "Little Red Riding Hood" story. The bottom level is by Cherry and Analy with some landscaping by Soror Nishi, and there is a top section by Alpha Auer and her alt Alpho Fullstop. At the top level there is a free cool unique avatar to be had from a gift ball thingy. Alpha credits much of her wolf head features to Leben Schnabel.

Then toward the end of our visit the person I assumed to be hostess, Mimesis Monday, (Proverbium) let me know she is my old friend Frigg Ragu or Norwegian, Heidi Dahlsveen RL. She actually owns the land, The Companion, on which this exhibit is held and is a RL/SL artist and story teller in her own right.   She advised me she changed to Mimesis as some people misunderstood her prior name, so she is most often Mimesis now. I've heard she may be doing some storytelling at The Companion.

Anyway.. the wolf face can be seen along the way.. in trees and all over. Little Red meets the wolf and they hit it off dance and get it on, in essence she lost her innocence, is victimized by the beast, but later in a pouring rain of red blood, the wolf gets it in the end.  (The knife Little Red is weilding may be hard to see in this picture, but there she is getting revenge)The scenes are pretty graphic.  The upper level depicts a group of wolves looking on as their main wolf is slowly spinning pinned or stabbed before them.  It was a bit confusing at first.. nothing at all like the story I used to know. I took a lot of photos and went to Alpha's site for more information about the storyline here: http://www.alphaauer.com/?p=3911
