Flat Ebbe Linden Meme

Since I work full time and have a busy RL I have not been able to successfully stalk Ebbe Linden like so many others apparently have. I must say I'm jealous of all the other groupies who chased him down lately according to Strawberry Singh's blog-see here: http://strawberrysingh.com/2014/04/14/flat-ebbe-linden-meme/.  But good for them really and out of the deal there are more photos that prove this new Linden Lab CEO really is out mingling with the rest of us.  It also made for a great meme for Berry to do this week.  She made a flat Ebbe for us to take out.  I took him to The Station sim which you can visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Station/179/127/1040 and where there is currently a fun Easter egg hunt for L$ and fun prizes going on and there will be a cool Steampunk art exhibit soon.  The Steampunk style sim, by expert scripter and builder Enigmatic Deir, is loaded with tons of fun things to do and see, many rides, a couple of clubs, rooms for rent, a couple of theaters that can be booked for free use or sit and watch movies for free any time, and so much more.  I can only dream the RL Ebbe will read this blog post and want to come visit the sim and I might see him.

*Like Berry I would say # 1 is to work on the SL reputation.  I've said this before in Hamlet's New World Notes blog when Ebbe first took the CEO job.  A little positive PR would go a long way in helping people realize there is so so much going on in SL and it's not all about "interactive porn".


*I'm still hoping for a great SL official viewer that I like.  Yes, I use Firestorm and at this rate I probably always will.  It's just way easier for me and has some features I like. 


*I'd probably waste my 3rd request/comment asking for a photo with him.  Yeah yeah, I know it's like 3 wishes and that would be wasting one on myself right? Well the meme said to share 3 things you'd like to tell him and one of Berry's was to tell him she appreciates his interactions with residents and tweets.  This is sort of like that, right?  : )  Only in a selfish sort of way I guess. O well, it's my meme response, go make your own.  Inquiring minds want to know.


I really enjoy Berry's Monday memes and this is yet another I was excited to do the minute I read it.  She did flat Rodvik in the past and he and I had a great date that I previously blogged.  Just use the search bar if you are interested.

Pranksters and Memes

A while back I suggested Strawberry Singh do one of her Monday Memes on practical jokes in Second Life, since I tend to be a fan as long as they don’t cross over into griefing or causing potential defamation, harm, or really making someone feel bad, overly embarrassed or angry.  She used this practical joke idea for her meme this past Monday and I’m finally getting around to blogging it myself.  See her meme list here:http://strawberrysingh.com/

 

I have enjoyed a few practical jokes over my time in SL and some just verge on creating a fun or nice surprise while others do qualify as a real practical joke.  What spurred me to suggest this for one of Strawberry’s memes is that since I’ve been hanging around The Station and the friendly folks over there,  I’ve been up to a little no good myself on occasion for fun. 

 

*The Prank- Soon after I met sim owner Enigmatic Deir I decided he needed his place toilet papered so I went about tping his place leaving waving strips of  the white stuff hanging from the ceiling and furniture and rolls of it lying all about.  When I was about done two of his good friends and sim managers showed up to see, and we decided to take some “delightful” photos of the 3 of us to also leave for him.  To this day one of those pics hangs in his bedroom and is also in his profile picks. 

 

*The Revenge-E was quick with the revenge gifting each of us a crazy, deranged, blood pecking, chasing, crazy steampunk chicken.  The thing is truly annoying and relentless once rezzed.  Then he put one or maybe a couple of these beasts in his funhouse over at The Station here:   http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Station/196/50/1040   and I can’t even draw a weapon quick enough to shoot that sucker.  I began plotting revenge immediately. 



*The Prank-The 3 of us girls left chicken feathers and pieces all over  his place along with photos and a video of us doing away with his chicken demon. 

 

 

 *The Revenge-Not long after that the 3 of us girls who participated in the above pranks each rezzed into our homes only to soon find a huge amount of motion trigger explosives, that yes, exploded all over the place.  Luckily I'm fast with the camera at times and caught a couple of  pics of the explosion.

*After that I took to leaving special notes and once filled E’s place with over 300 balloons in the main room so that when he rezzed in he was mostly covered with poppable balloons.  When he IM’d me asking if I left something in his place that he would be returning, I told him to hang on I was on my way over to help pop those suckers as I did NOT want over 300 balloons in my inventory.

 

*The Revenge- ok so his latest prank to me was a bit off the charts and naughty so I can’t reveal it here but now I need to think of something extra special to get him back with… anyone have any great ideas?

  

Over time I’ve done little pranky things to other friends, some others that come to mind are leaving porn under my neighbors office desk,  parking my trike, then stack of rusted old cars, and other things in the office parking spot he so kindly made for me.  Of course he was worse.  Once we were in a meeting talking about very serious stuff and there was a box of truffles on the office table we sat around.  The next thing I knew one was on my nose and then a few other unmentionable places.  I was laughing so hard and I couldn’t get the things off me until it dawned on me to delete them as I was the one who had left them on the table in the first place.  Thankfully no one else noticed.   Of course it’s always easier to prank when you have rez rights and/or the other person’s build perms.  Anyway, those are just a few of the fun things I remember.  Let me know if you have some other cute good prank ideas. 

Inventory-Another Berry's Monday Meme

When I saw Berry's meme was about inventory and this recent kick everyone is on to minimalism or at least cleaning out inventory (yeah yeah I know it's good for everyone if we keep them clean) I sort of froze up a little and for the first time felt like I should not admit how big my inventory is. I HATE to waste my SL time cleaning it, therefore I have demos, notecards from forever ago, old dead landmarks in multiple copies, etc.  Grrrrrr.   So as I look down at my inventory is says 642 hehe.. it's still loading.  I'll copy Berry's meme questions over here while I wait for the load.  Hers is here: http://strawberrysingh.com/2013/08/11/inventory-meme-liquid-mesh/#commentlist

Ok, so the first thing that crosses my mind is on #5 like ummm imagining a male blogger reading this and they begin thinking about Berry searching for penis'... NOW how many penis' are popping up in their inventory AND RL???  Does that make me a bad person?

So she said no lying.. here we go:

2. OMG!.. You seriously can ask a SL hoarder that question?  Pass.. Ok, I'll try.. um... hmm. I really thought about this. There are many things I like so much better than others, but I can't even think of one thing that totally stands out as a must have.  I like a lot and many things not so much (those are probably the things I should ditch asap.. prob wont happen though.)  I don't really have good folders made up, so I can't cheat on my blog like Berry did on her own saying she'd keep her hair folder.  (JK Berry, it's your meme.... you can cheat all you want ~grins~)


So then just off the top of my head hmm still can't think of something extra special.  I LOVE a lot, I like a lot, and I also dislike a lot in there.  I have to say I really like my "It's A Trap" t-shirt, although it's not even mesh and I've had it forever, but the maker gave me full perms when they stopped selling them and allows me to give them away to friends or do what I want with them, so it's sorta special to me. (If anyone wants one just ding me inworld and let me know) So I'll choose that. I was thrilled when Molokai (seiki.amaterasu) of PoisonApple gave it to me that way. 
Trap shirt works for male or female and is mod, so can adjust the waist and sleeve lengths etc., and no I don't have on my normal skin in this pic, that I talk about here.

After I decided on this shirt then a friend got back with me that I had IM'd asking that question of them earlier when I first started typing here,  since I really couldn't think of anything uber special initially, just to sort of see what others think, and they said.... a pic they have of them and their partner on their wedding day.  That's pretty humbling.. I don't have one like that.  Grrrr now I'm a bit annoyed and jealous and all, feeling a bit sorry for myself and feeling a bit like I didn't think of something really special like that. Ok, well maybe I should just ditch my entire inventory and start from scratch.  I would be much lighter and it's always fun to shop, so I'm sure I'd fill up quick enough.  Maybe I need to try to make some special picture with someone special that I want to keep forever and ever??  Who would that be??   Moving on.....

3. Not a clue. I haven't bought anything yet tonight. Maybe it was that Diesel works snake prop before my little weekend vacation.  Anyway,  I might not even buy anything tonight, I'm still sleepy from a big weekend otherwise if I do I'll add it here.

4. My main skin. Also I like to wear the same couple of Dela hair, so guess that is worth mentioning.

5. 13 plus a gesture that is in the trash.  (see at some point I actually did put something in the trash) These include things mostly from bachelorette parties such as sippy cup type things, hover bike, cake etc.

Ok,,, ONE MORE PS... I got to talking about that picture the friend said they'd keep, and started wondering a bit more about what ONE THING others would keep.  I think this is a question that could stand alone.  I'd LOVE to hear what all my SL friends would keep if they could only keep one thing from their inventory.  Maybe though that is because I'm nosey.... or as I like to say, curious.

My Date with Flat Rodvik Linden

I went out on a little mini-vaca RL and came back to see Berry's Flat Rodvik Monday Meme. See here: http://strawberrysingh.com/

 This is right up my alley.  I have done the Flat Stanley in RL and actually sent out a whole laminated family of 4 in different directions 2 of which traveled the world, one stayed within the states and the 4th,  bless his paper heart, never returned home.  I have some cool photos and stories out of that little experiment.     If you are not familiar with the Flat Stanley story and didn't read Berry's blog, it's basically a kids book of a flat boy that easily travels around, since he is flat, and has adventures, and often school classes or individuals do something similar and send out a flat likeness/think paper doll, to go from friend to relative or just with someone as they travel and they take pics of this flat paper doll on their travels, often in front of historical landmarks, with groups of people, and doing fun things with their travel companions. 

Berry's meme this week is to take her flat Rodvik Linden (free on SL Marketplace here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Flat-Rodvik-Linden/5142523) around and show him a good time in SL and blog about the experience.  I decided to make a date of it, since I don't have a SL boyfriend or travel companion really, and Rodvik seemed to be the perfect opportunity to blog about my "perfect date" in SL.  Berry took him out on the town, so why shouldn't I?  He is very agreeable and doesn't talk too much.  He went right along wherever I wanted him to go.  He didn't complain about anything at all. 













I like to be a little active and play games etc.  I couldnt' find anyone playing SLictionay which is one of my fav SL games I bought on Marketplace and sometimes give as gifts (here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/BB-Black-Board-with-SLictionary-Game/2061124 )
so, instead for our first stop I took him bowling. I enjoy a fun opening to an evening and it's great to see how competitive a person is.  We went over to Paradox Bowling: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mournful/128/128/37 for a quick game.  I was a little disappointed he wasn't up for keeping score.  And while I'm great at carrying on a conversation for hours, he was a little quiet for me, and I didnt' get to know much about him at all, except that he could use a new outfit for his birthday or some occasion.  His rez day is Jan 11th, just for the record.   So my warm up activity maybe didn't suit him.

I like to move along in SL so we teleported over to some live music over at The Roof. Noma was singing with Vincent playing and there were literally 81 avatars present plus Rod who didn't count. hehe. Ling always has a large crowd for live music Mondays and Wednesdays.  I really just wanted to dance, but again, Rodvik must be taken or gay, because no matter what I tried I just could not catch his eye.  He did loyally stand by me all night though.  The Roof here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife//172/167/50

 I wanted to go out formal dancing but gave up on that though since Rod seemed pretty tired and wasn't moving too much other than when I moved.


Then I thought perhaps I'd take him out exploring a little.  I figured maybe he's not a talker and just wanted to relax. I heard the 13 Calas Galadhon sims are all closing August 1st, probably/hopefully reopening in early September,  but I heard they will be losing at least four permanently: Bay of Balfalas, Belegaer, Sea of Nurnen and Eryn Vorn.  So we went over there: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mirromere/128/128/32.  The music and scenery was so lovely  If you want more info. about the closure and issues you can read more about it here:  http://calasgaladhon.com/

Finally I took Rod home to show him my house, and I hoped for a cuddle in the hammock or something, but still he resisted, so I gave him a house tour. Not actually the best date ever after all.   I tried.










And finally... something weird happened.  There is a tiny chance I did get him wet in the pool and fed him a snack after midnight.  I lost track of time. Sorry Berry. Time to sleep. Or maybe I already was dreaming.

More Monday Memes- SL Firsts

So, if you have been following here you know I'm trying to keep up with Strawberry Signh's memes that she has been putting out on Mondays.  This week the meme is about firsts, and it is a LOT harder than the prior memes, first of all because for whatever reason I can't recall a lot of my SL firsts and second becuase I have an avatar that I never play that came before Kara.  She is now my delegated "money" avatar, although KT also works the books these days too some for the sake of convenience.  She was never in like KT is though so I'll stick to KT's first for this one, at least of what I can remember.  And I must say, Strawberry has a great memory for a wise old lady of 6 years.  Ok, so here we go again.....

1. First SL Friend: Not a clue.. most likely some guy I met at some dance club, but I really don't recall.  Actually KT brought over a few friends of the above mentioned prior avatar.  I still don't recall who was the very first.  I think a mentor in the new avatar area was the first ever to friend "me" and offer any assistance I might need along the way. 

2. First SL Kiss: I'm a pose ball fanatic so this could have been anyone and must not have been that amazing since I really don't remember.   I do know it was quite a ways into my SL as I was kind of freaked out about all the things the avatars could do and was very careful.

3. First SLex time/place/partner: Yeah, like Strawberry, I'm a SL virgin too..right *coughs*

4. First SL Partner/Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Wife/Husband: Boyfriend, hmm IDK, not sure I've really had one yet.  Girlfriend, hmm, same.   I have been partnered with 2 avatars.  The first was Alla  which lasted around 6 months and I could enter a whole sob story here, but I won't, and the 2nd was Emma for leap day last year.  Although I have to say Emma and I have a deal to re-partner every leap day hereafter.  Other than that the chances are high I won't again.  I've never been SL married and the thought of it is a little freaky to me.  I have friends who seem to get married to a different person every few months and while I love to attend the weddings, some can seem a little too real with all the props, animations, vows, and emotions, etc.

5. First SL Job:  I think the first paid job I had was writing for the BOSL magainze for about a year doing events and society articles and photos.  That is a fun job.

6. First SL Creation: A plain white country kitchen table.  I only made it out of necessity as at the time I could not find just a normal white country kitchen block table and chairs set and just went for it myself.   I got all excited when it turned out ok and I was happy with it, so next I tried to make a piece of "art" which was a few twisted sort of spirally prims in multi colors that I added a steam script or something to. I called it a "sculpture" and I think I still have it in my inventory. It's a hot mess and if I have it in inventory still and can find it (it's probably just called "object" like many misc prim in my inventory so maybe I won't locate it) then I'll take a pic and post it later.  The table was a much better creation.

7. First Encounter with a Linden: Not a clue, although Lexi Linden was encouraging and helped me with some things in 2011 with my Haunted House.

8. First Encounter with a SLebrity: Again, I'm not sure, but one of the most memorable that I like to talk about is the time I met Hamlet Au in June of 2009.  I was exploring the "Drowsy" sim which was an excellent explore (now gone) and met up with Hamlet and a few other people around the area.  We started talking and continued exploring the sim together.  We asked each other if we could take the others photo.  We took pictures doing various silly things (see Hamlet's blog here: http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2009/06/new-world-slurl.html  )  I took a photo of us together on a sea serpent and after about an hour or so asked if he minded if I posted the picture on my Flickr.  I added that I'm sure no one would recognize him anyway.  He graciously indicated posting in Flickr was fine.  Soon after that (mind you I was still pretty new at that time, and will forever be a permanoob) I remembered to check his profile, since we would be parting soon.  He friended me and I looked at his profile and saw the blog link and took it to New World Notes.  Suddenly I realized I had put my foot in my mouth when I had advised him that no one would recognize him anyway on Flickr.  I did apologize and I think he found it amusing,  and we have become friends, although I infrequently see him as we are both busy.  But he does take the time to play well in SL for a pretty high profile dude, and he has even been known to jump on my bouncy bed with me.   : ) http://www.flickr.com/photos/karatrapdoor/3637199960/

9. First SL sim you fell in love with:  There are so so many sims I have loved in SL for their beauty, immersiveness, or for fun memories with friends but I think one of my first special ones is one I still love and that is Tempura Island.  Another I liked a lot early on was Midnight Reflections but I think it's gone now or if it's still around it's very different.  Both sims have/had many beautiful landscaped areas, dancing and corners to explore.

Which network is your favorite?
Flickr hands down.  I really love to see everyone's SL pictures there and I've made some great SL friends through there.

Which network is your least favorite?
Plurk.. haven't gotten into it yet or whatever.  I don't really get it.

Which network do you have the most amount of connections?
Facebook 2,402.  And I am not into FB that much either.  I friended about 15 friends I know initially when I went in and now it's just escalated from there with requests from others.

How/Where do you usually read/use most of your networks?
Home, after work, on the couch, laptop.  I used to love to get into Flickr on work breaks/lunch, but they block it now.  I just need to get it on my phone, but I've been lazy about that since I'm really there to work and don't need to be even more distracted.

What are your favorite social networking apps? (if applicable)
'Haven't done that yet but plan to.

What do you like most about social networking sites?
I'm nosey and curious by nature......'helps feed that.

What do you like least about social networking sites?
Some of the stressful controversial posts make me a little nervous, especially when the trolls surface.  My blog is more of a cheer leading blog in that I blog what I like and cheer on everyone in their great products, builds, etc.   Once in a blue moon I'll let out a rant, but it's rare.

Do you feel social networks are a good way to promote you/your brand/your work?
Yes, but I also am not thrilled with people who over advertise their things on social networks. Spam.  Bleh.  I want to see and know things but not like 400 times on the same site.  Way too self serving.

What is your main reason for using Social Networks?
Mostly for the fun of seeing what everyone is up to and what I can then get up to. I like to share the fun too and they are good for that.

Another Meme for Youyou

Strawberry Singh started another meme today.  It seems a lot of bloggers are having fun with it, as am I.  Here is my "Procrastination meme" for the week.  It's not about procrastination but rather she called it that as it is something to do rather than what was intended to be done.  So it's more info about me based on her specific meme questions. Here goes:

1.What is the rez date for your current SL Avatar that you use most often?

   Kara Trapdoor March 18, 2009-Today 4 years ago!

 

2.Where was the first place you made friends as a newb and got to know people in Second Life?

  The first places I went were some freebie places a mentor recommended when he rescued my avatar from 2 guys in the initial new avatar landing area who were also new but obviously alts already on the prowl and double teaming me for some “fun”. After that I went to Dance Island as he had suggested I find a dance club to start. I hung out there totally enjoying the music and dancing my avatar but was not inworld all the time like I am now. Soon I realized my cool Barbie avatar (Ruth) did not look as cool as the avatars around me, and when I started making friends and learning how to look a little better I started to move out more shopping a little which led to exploring amazing sims and I was hooked. I still went back to Dance Island off and on then, but after other noobs kept asking to go to some very naughty places I searched and found the Eternal Creations sims which was a large area where cool Christians of all denominations went for club dancing, games, socialization with others less likely to just be on the “make”, activities and a lot of fun organized safe stuff to do and come back to after I’d go out exploring or to live music. I made some good friends there I still consider some of my best. Eventually I needed to explore more and more of SL and what was going on all around. That EC area is no longer in SL as in everything the expense of running such a huge area became too much, but some of them have a somewhat similar newer place that I really don’t get around to much, and those I was closest too don’t either. There is a time and a season for things.

 

3.Where do you spend most of your SL time now?

  I am home more than I used to be to blog or just work on things, but then I run to as many sims to explore, events, arts, music, clubs, etc. as possible in between everything else. I really move around a lot.

 

4.Who is your closest friend in Second Life? (only pick one)

   There is no way I could pick just one. I have a handful of people I consider close.

 

5.What is the most favorite thing in your inventory? (only pick one)

    I love my Kara Kong and some of my crazier or fun costumes, but of course they don’t get as much use as many other things I wear or use regularly.

 

6.The last thing you purchased in Second Life?

  A club building.  HUGE SPOILER ALERT HERE  (stay tuned on this subject)

 

7.What color clothing does your avatar wear most often?

  Red and black.

 

8.Do you prefer to walk, run or fly? I usually run cuz I suck at flying and I’m too impatient for walking. (same as Stawberry!-see my prior meme)

 

9.What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in SL?

  Hmmm, so many to choose from.. maybe that silly rap and dance machinima I did with my bloom doll. Or it could be the time I totally tp’d right on stage during a dance show production while they had a full house and it was being recorded. At that point the best I could do was walk off the front saying, “And that folks was my audition for this wonderful dance group” I did apologize to the camera man and group owner who said it was no problem at all as the they edit. The rest of the group I guess just found it added to the entertainment. Since I’m a permanoob that could easily happen again, but I am a bit more careful when I am intent on a show not to do that. I wish I’d have had my bow animation back then though. Probably my alt has Kara beat on this one questoins though. Idk on this #9 one…... so many to choose from really.

The gist of it is to list 7 not-so-well-known facts about yourself, blog or Flickr them and then the info. gets around.  A meme is an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.  Spreading here:

My SL Fact #1:
I'm a major perma-noob.  My good friends know this of me and it becomes painfully clear quickly if around me at all.  Although I've been in SL around 4 years, I am usually still the first one to fall down stairs, run into a wall or the ocean, forget a shoe, etc.

My SL Fact #2:
My SL pet peeves include bad avatar toes, difficult fingernails and eyelashes. (among other things I can't control such as viewer issues)

My SL Fact #3:
I'm very lazy in SL. I do a lot but am lazy about it, so don't be surprised to see typos everywhere. And I won't even mention anything about my completely unorganized "abyss".

My SL Fact #4:
I've only really ever had 2 SL crushes in all my time in. But my contact list is closing in on 600 and I do have many good friends of all types.

My SL Fact #5:
I sometimes explore with an alt in order to get uninterrupted time or remain anonymous for various reasons.  OK, whatever, tons of people do.  How do you think I ever have time to blog?

My SL Fact #6:
I'm a pose ball junkie.  I've heard most people start to ignore pose balls after they've been in SL for a while, but the pose balls and animations scream out to me .... "Come Kara, try me".  

My SL Fact #7:
I run.   Nuff said.  My peeps know this.

Ok,these are not so interesting and most people know this stuff about me if they know me at all.  If I think of something more interesting I'll change them out, but in the mean time spread the game.
