Their site states :  "The first New Moon of 2017 will be on the 27th of January, which coincides with teh Chinese New Year on the 28th, bringing in teh Year of the Fire Rooster.  And thuse we arrive at the theme for our next event at BURN2: Fire Moon"


I've taken a few pics and captured some of the schedule of events for Sunday, their last day for this particular episode of their event.   You can also view the schedule and other related info on the web site. I've blogged the SL Burning man events many times so you can use the search to find out more about this SL event with periodic art/community involvement and displays that mimic the RL event in many ways.  They have a great sense of community at these events with lots of music, art, and playfulness, and a bunch of free gifts too as usual.

It's time for some burn again over on the playa.  Join muscians, djs, artists, performers dancers, free spirits and others in Second Life's Burning Man sim.  The freebies, the porta potties, camp plots, 3 stages, catacombs, and all the unique builds are ready for your discovery.  I've blogged many of the prior burning man events in SL but if you want more general  info., schedule, map, etc. prior to heading over for a visit be sure the check the official web site link above.  I took a few pics for my blog.

Burn 2 Press Pass day Friday and Open Saturday Oct 17 through 25

Today is press pass day and I hope to add some photos here soon and then the doors open at noon on Saturday to Burn2 an annual SL event based on RL Burning Man.  There will be 6 regions to explore always filled with a variety of fun things and people to enjoy and plenty of scheduled events too.

  Their press release states in part....

" BURN2 2015: Carnival of Mirrors will open on Saturday the 17th of October at noon SLT with a procession by the Lamplighters, beginning at their Village which is not far from the Welcome Gate where you arrive. You are all invited to explore, experience and express the joy of the Burn and revel in the music, art and colourful constructions born out of the imaginations of creative Burners. And, of course there will be fire!

The event opens with a Lamplighters procession at 12:00pm SLT on the 17th, with another at 7:00pm SLT. Additional processions will take place at noon and 7pm SLT daily through the 23rd. On the 24th there will be no processions, but the Man Burns will be at 6am, 12pm and 6pm SLT on the 24th. On the last day the Lamplighters will perform their last processions at 5am, 11am and 5pm SLT - one hour before each Temple Burn. Also on Temple Burn day, Lamplighter processions will pause along their route at Center Camp for a short Fire Dance performance before continuing the procession toward the Temple.

The theme of BURN2 2015: Carnival of Mirrors, once again: 

This year’s theme is about mirrors and masks, mazes and merger. It will be a kind of magic

show that takes the form of an old fashioned

carnival. This Carnival of Mirrors asks three

essential questions: within our media saturated

world, where products and people,

consumption and communion morph into an endlessly diverting spectacle, who is the

trickster, who is being tricked, and how might we discover who we really are?

Classic carnivals, as theaters of illusion, upheld a very strict dividing line that separated

carnies, cast as showmen, from members of a naïve public who were labeled chumps and

suckers, marks and rubes. Our carnival, however, will perform an even more subversive trick

— its motto is Include the Rube. The wall dividing the observer from observed will disappear,

as by an act of magic; through the alchemy of interaction, everyone at once can be the carny
and the fool.

Addendum.. so I"ve been in and its very cool.  They are making great use of windlight to get a good reflective water feel in some of the builds, of course there is the usual fire in many places, and I saw some of the decorated porta potties.  Some very cool builds.  I'll add a few teaser pics.

 

Burn 2, October 19-27 Cargo Cult

I was privileged enough to gain entry into Burn 2 press day today.  I'm super tired right now and need to get to bed but wanted to at least get a little info. out about it. Burn 2 opens Saturday 10-19 and will run through the 27th. The theme this year is "Cargo Cult".

First I recommend just going to the Burn 2 official site (link at top) as it provides a list of builders and direct links to their exhibits. They give the history of the RL Burning Man event, as well as how Second Life became involved in this annual event. There will be many events and the exhibits are always very fun to see.  

Highlights are always of course, the man, who literally gets burned at the end, and this year they have a pretty impressive temple. The Temple was built by Midori Rotaru and Zorch Voom, with scripter Cammi Hudson helping with the censer. Skye Silverweb said, " the censer will be in place starting that day, to collect the messages left for friends, loved ones, estranged ones and those gone beyond. These are filled with surprisingly powerful emotions ranging from grief to anger to discovery to love and hope, and just before the Temple is burned on the last night of the festival, these messages are read out in local chat. Incredibly spiritual - and healing - when the Burn commences." There is so much to see and do it's almost overwhelming, in a good way : ).  Check it out Saturday and the following week.

 

It seems there are a lot of pigs around this year. I saw fun vehicles as usual, freebies, and it's always a great time hanging out, dancing and socializing with the builders and attendees at Burn 2. 
  

Burn 2 October 20-28th, 2012 -Fertility

Burn 2 is coming October 20-28th, 2012.  "This year's theme is "Fertility." Echoing the theme of the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City (http://www.burningman.com/art_of_burningman/bm12_theme.html), this year's theme explores fertility within the lens of our virtual event."

 I was lucky to get in early for the press day and grab a few pics and play around a little.  This is always a fun event and I could see this year will be great.

Their press release states in part  ..."BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It is an officially sanctioned Burning Man regional event, and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional groups.

The BURN2 Team operates events year around, culminating in an annual major festival of community, art and fire in the fall - a virtual echo of Burning Man itself.

This year's theme is "Fertility." Echoing the theme of the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City (http://www.burningman.com/art_of_burningman/bm12_theme.html), this year's theme explores fertility within the lens of our virtual event."

There is also always a lot of fun and dance and about the entertainment they note: "We will be offering entertainment from over 40 Live acts and 50 DJs from across SL. We even have a literary camp for spoken word events!"
